Well, having seen the photos on here of all the shiny new 991 GT3s I thought that I'd drag my old,antique GT3 out of the garage today to see just how bad it really is.
As you can see from the photo it looks completely outdated and everyone will know that I'm driving an antique
Staring up that unreliable old Mezger engine - what a load of rattles and noises , absolutely awful and would you believe that the thing only goes to 8500 rpm. I can't tell you how tired my arm is from changing gear, and my left leg…..frankly it's a miracle I can still walk. All this business about making smooth gear changes, heel and toeing etc is just so exhausting.
Hydraulic steering? It's really weird and I don't know how to describe it properly - you can sort of feel the road. Bizarre.
I think that I'd better put the old dog back in the garage before I get even more depressed and tomorrow it"ll be back to the RS200 Clio - that's right, the old one without flappy paddles, electric steering and synthesised exhaust…...

I hate to see a fellow PH'er suffer like this, so i'm prepared, as a one off, to relieve you of this outdated horror, hell, I'll even throw a few quid your way to sweeten the deal.

GT3 must be simply epic !But so is the 997 IMO and for what I want in an occasional sports car, a 997 GT3 would be just fine.
I think the theme of this thread was with all the inevitable hype that comes with a new model, it's easy to forget just how good the previous one was ??
Anyway it's great for me if they do depreciate a bit as then I might be more likely to sell mine and actually buy one

It is a different generation of 911, and so better in so many ways. But I agree the value of older GT3's (going back to 1999 6GT3's) will not be affected to any significant amount. Not sure about the 4.0RS - is it a car or is it art? The 991GT3 will probably run rings around the 4.0RS on track.
Wouldn't be quite so sure of a 4.0 rs getting spanked on track if the driver knows what he is doing.... And more importantly I would not be surprised at all if the 4.0 driver was having more fun doing so.isaldiri said:

A Preuninger said, it is about being fast on the track, and why PDK makes sense.Of course driving a manual car is great fun - I'd rather do it on road though.

It certainly has helped in the lap time war....however, not being a racing driver, I have never quite understood the argument about needing/wanting to be the quickest when on track. Personally trackdays for me are for more for amusement, I have probably had more fun trying to keep up with supposedly superior cars in a slower car than passing people in a superior one. Subjective though i admit what people want from a track car.Of course driving a manual car is great fun - I'd rather do it on road though.
