Should I sell my 996 RS for a 997 RS ?
Discussion
I suppose Its just down to whether you wish to have a car that's seen to be the 'most pure' and a sure fire investment?
Personally, I chose a 997 GT3 (a non RS admittedly) on looks and generally being the newer car overall. Will it look after me as well financially as the 996RS, defiantly not, but it's not exactly dropping like a stone either.
I also liked the idea of TC for when the weather gets nasty during a run, the cabin is far better as are the available options, which for me, make the car just a nicer place to be.
Hope this helps.

I did exactly this as well , when I bought my 997 gt3 from JZM they had a nice 996 RS for the same money but for what I wanted the car for it was just too hardcore, yes the 996 would have been a much better Investment but I would have never used it.Personally, I chose a 997 GT3 (a non RS admittedly) on looks and generally being the newer car overall. Though if I really wanted to invest the money I would have used the money towards a buy to let.
Depends what you want from a car. They are virtually equally as rare, but I'd hazard a guess at a good 6 being harder to find than a good 7.
The 7 is a better car in my view but might not be a sought after because of the 6's perceived rawness.
Decide why you want an RS, go drive a 7, and make your own mind up. The Internet will tell you all sorts of "uneducated" stuff.

I have to agree with this . I had a 6 RS & now a 7.2 RS . No comparison as an overall package & drive . The 7.2 is light years ahead of the 6 but I asked myself what I actually wanted out of the car overall & the decision was easy . The 7 is a better car in my view but might not be a sought after because of the 6's perceived rawness.

Tks for replys. I'm using my lotus exige s for regular journeys ( I don't use a car for work) and for track days which means the RS is only occasionally used. I'm thinking that if at some stage I flogged the lotus and just had one car for what I need a car for 997 would fit the bill better. Although the 997 gt3 I had supplied from an opc was a badly prepared example when it worked it was a great car though it wasn't an RS, I used it for everything including track days.
The 996 isn't an everyday car but then that makes it that bit 'special' I suppose when I use it.
Investment is obviously important but then I'm running two cars.
As I said its just forward thinking at this stage

I suppose if the 6RS is only used on the road (and hence barely above 5,000 rpm) then some if it's magic goes untapped. Whereas a 997 version may get a wider breadth of uses.
Having said all that, I would never sell a 6RS! If you have a usage gap then make the man maths work to buy an additional car without selling it. The 6RS is almost as good as hard currency IMHO.

This actually makes the most sense I'm thinking. Having said all that, I would never sell a 6RS! If you have a usage gap then make the man maths work to buy an additional car without selling it. The 6RS is almost as good as hard currency IMHO.
I'd remortgage and have both
If could have only the one though I'd have the 997 - much prettier car, more usable on the road, and as for investment/s.. i think all RS's will do well in the long term. The 6RS may be the first mezger, rarer, rawer etc but the 997 is a much better looking car so i think as for investment - which will be the stronger - i reckon it's six and two three's. There's a few chaps on here that live, breath, and s
t 6RS's, but they use the RS for it's intended purpose, and hats off to them. But the 6RS as a road car that never gets tracked... i'd get more enjoyment and satisfaction polishing the 7 - one of Porsche's best looking 911's

I would only consider it sensible to get out of a 996RS if you were moving into a 4 litre to be honest.
Why? Crazy prices and you'd never want to use it! With prices of the in-the-spotlight 6RS's atm i think sensible would be to sell now and buy the regular 7.2 RS, and use and enjoy it. The last of the analogue 7.2 RS's at around £90k is imo the pick of the range atm. - of course, sensible would be to keep the 6RS AND buy a 7.2
