Had a winter check up a week ago in Leicester OPC which highlighted an oil leek ('not gushing' to use their words). Oil was very low, so having topped up, have been monitoring. Today I'm at the minimum on the dipstick and the computer read says 2-3 bars.

Had 1 140 mile run but otherwise daily 20-30 miles.

Are we talking RMS here or could we be something else as seems excessive loss in a short period of time.

They ID'd a leak.

Presumably they know and told you where from? Simples?

Other than that, you mention "oil leak" and expect people on a forum who don't even know what precise variant you drive to diagnose where it's coming from?

A bit difficult, that. biggrin

Go back to the dealer define exactly the origins of the oil leak. If it is RMS should be easy enough to spot . RMS about £20 + the dreaded and approx 8hours of labour.

OP are you saying that in a week and 300 miles or so, your oil level has gone from bung full to nearly empty?

If so, that's a big leak which should be making a lot of mess. Even small leaks make a lot of mess.

So either you need to get a big leak fixed or you need to work out why your engine is using a lot of oil and get that fixed along with the fixing of a small leak.

Assuming your oil level check technique delivers accurate readings that's a lot of oil to lose to an oil leak. An RMS leaking oil that bad would have to be classified as a gusher.

A general rule of thumb with an oil leak is if the leak is bad enough to wash away the grime that the oil collects, if there is wet oil present, if the oil spreads to surrounding areas, if drops/spots appear on the ground, that is a leak bad enough to fix. If the car was covered by some warranty generally the above would have the leak bad enough to be fixed under the warranty.

Absent leak sign that indicates a severe leak my WAG would the oil is being consumed by the engine and the primary suspect in this scenario is not the engine per se but the infamous AOS.
