Finally got time to pick up 2s today. Although i'm not convinced that the looks are far better than the 996 4s', its engine is shockingly powerfull and a real delight! What a car, drove back from notts over the rain soaked tops through the peak district and loved it, so much acceleration, 3rd gear destroys all traffic, and most people didnt have time to flash headlights in dis-approval, before they could react the 2s was gone in the distance with just a ploom of spray left behind!

This c2s is the real deal, the exhaust note is good, similar to the sports exhaust on the 996 at low speeds, has a great pitch change at 5k revs but I cant wait for my 2s that comes in april with the full sports exhaust and other options on board.

Wide body 997 4s will be the best car ever!..... until the 998!

Superb: now I really do feel like I'm driving something pensionable!

Is it true that Porsche aren't planning a 4wd system on the 997s because handling and grip is so immense in the first place?

That can't be right DeR; why waste all that know how?

Is the TT going to be 2WD? I think not.

Congrats Sarbs, enjoy your new car....i drove about 50 miles in an s last week and was seriously impressed with how good it was and the improvements in damping over the 996...in some respects the overall refinement made it too good?
as you say the 4wd models should be interesting, I would not be suprised if they re write the laws of physics as we currently understand them

It isn't correct about regarding 4wd, clarkson said that on top gear a few weeks back, obviously his script writer isnt well informed! Next release is the 997 C2/s cab, then the gt3 then hopefully late next year the C4 and then the wide body C4s! Hope to be in mine for the summer of 2006!

What colour did you get and when did you place your order as I haven't seen many yet and this must surely be one of the first few on the road?

The car is silver with black leather, will post a few pics later today. There is a private one for sale at 911uk.com, so they are starting to filter through now.

Hi Sarbs,

First respect and well done on the new toy. I am very imterested that you said it was a big improvement. What did you have before?
A friend of mine has a 996C4S with the factory engine upgrade to 345bhp. He has tested the 997 and 997S and was dissapointed in the "High speed stability in corners" We are talking over 120mph cornering speed he said it felt "Nervous" compared to his 996C4S. This is a bloke who has had lots of performance cars and over 20 Porsches he has raced cars and really does know what he is talking about.

In our high tech bach to back noise test (in an underground garage) 996 won hands down. That was against the 997 and not the S.

Enjoy you toy mate and well done again.

  • I Had a (2003)996 4s, it didnt have an engine upgrade, it was very quick but the 997 2s feels so much faster, second and third gear are ballistic. I am no racing driver so will have to bow to your friends opinion, the reason I bought the 4s was for the added safety 4wd brings to the party, I will no doubt do the same when the 997 4s is released. Martin brundle commented along the same lines that the car felt nervous at very high speeds in car magazines performance car of the year award which the 2s won.

    • The standard exhaust note on the 997 2s is far supperior to that of the standard 996, it even sounds similar to the sports exhaust on the 996 so the standard 997 must just have a weak exhaust sound. I cant wait to hear the 997 2s with the sports exhaust, it should raise the hairs on the back of my neck!

Agree the point about nervous high speed behaviour in the 997 S. I had to slow down on straight but bumpy roads just to keep to a straight line.
