To Cover or Not to Cover that is the question?

Never had a cover on mine in all the years I have had my Turbo always been stored in well ventilated garage . My engine is always cleaned and sprayed with WD40 that goes for all running gear no evidence of corrosion . Any opinions ?

You spray the whole running gear in WD40? Why? You do know that its not a protective substance? It was invented to displace water.

It is still better than nothing, and provides limited short term protection. Keeps ally shiny. Probably that or something similar is the best to use to liberally spray an engine and drivetrain with, what are the options?

A wax type product is quite horrible to use on an engine and a proper oil ensures that dirt sticks to it, and could damage rubber.

As long as you don't expect too much from any very light oil it's a good idea.

If you want to coat your mechanical parts with protective spray, try using ACF-50 rather than WD-40. It was developed specifically for this purpose, and is used extensively in aviation for preventing corrosion on alloy components.

Always used WD40 never let me down .

In a ventilated garage a cover will keep dust and animals off the paintwork. I can't see it making a difference to the engine or mechanicals. I am considering getting a cover for that reason, although unless you put the car away clean and dry every time I suppose its use will be limited to the winter lay-up.
