Route Napoleon hotels?

Hi all
Anyone know if there are any hotels worth staying at on the route napoleon ?,not had the pleasure of driving it as of yet but that will change in july when we take it in on the way down to St Maxine.

When we did the trip we based ourselves in Grenoble and then drove the N85 to Monaco.

Plenty of hotels either end.

Would reccomend a stay in Gap though which is about half way down. Beautiful town and well worth looking there
for stop overs there

Not sure how much you intend to take in, but it's all comfortably doable in far less than a day.

Very nice drive BTW, especially towards the Gorges du Verdon end.

There are plenty of decent hotels in/around Castellane.

I'd look at Castellane over Gap. I don't remember Gap being a particularly attractive place. But the scenery around Castellane is stunning. Straight into better roads as well, of I remember correctly.

I suppose where you stay depends on how you intend to plan your trip.

Looking into this for you, we stayed at the Chateau de la Commanderie at the south end of Grenoble, the start of the nice driving bits is just a km or two away, so you get up nice and fresh and start the day brilliantly! A decent place to stay with parking.

We did the RDN that day and then stayed at a small hotel in St Vallier de They which is a village north of Grasse, very shortly after the former, the nice driving bits end.

Looking at where you are going, you could skip stopping at St Vallier de They or anywhere else for that matter and just drive on to St Maxime, I suppose you would get there at around 8 pm latest assuming you take the shortest/fastest route. Google says 1hr 20 from St Vallier to St Maxime.
