Just got my results from over-rev check on my 997 GT2.

I've had it for nearly 4 years now. I knew there were some over-rev due to a compression test requirement for warranty extension in December 2010 (8 months after I purchased said car).

Car currently at about 750 engine hours.

Range 3 - 2,839 ignitions @ 246.000 hr
Range 4 - 362 ignitions @ 199.200 hr

Both these events are down to previous owner...

Should I send the car to the scrap heap now or keep enjoying?

Warranty not an issue as I have chosen to 'self insure' this risk and I will not be selling car in the near future.

One interesting thing, I spoke with Manager at Porsche here in Dubai and he said they have dropped compression testing for range 4 and just won't warranty if range 4 has been hit.

Doesn't sound too bad, because:

It all happened a long time ago - 15-20k miles ago?
RR 3 and 4 for a GT2 are registered at not particularly high revs, and
I assume it passed its compression test.

rev range four is very low for a GT2. Lots of the uk one's are maxed out to six.
You wouldn't have a warranty problem if you were in the uk with a rr4.

Thanks for comments.

Whoosh indeed smile but posted because I am actually happy that it wasn't worse (worried about previous owner). So a happy boy.

I don't think the few Range 4 over 15,000 miles a go is something to worry about.

The car has just had full major service and full suspension set-up check (thanks Al Naboodah Porsche).

It is booked into it's own private shipping container on 9th March and will be enjoying a 6 week cruise through the Mediterranean for arrival in the UK in time for summer.

All it needs is a new set of boots before settling into it's new home in my garage in the UK.

Can't wait...

No worries with RR 4 on a GT2, recent read out from mine below;

RR1 - 2630 - 507.5 h
RR2 - 388.1 -388.1 h
RR3 - 217 - 334.4 h
RR4 - 35 - 206.9h
RR5 - -
RR6 - -

Such a rewarding car to drive well, just enjoy..

Here's mine:

RR1 - 2698 - 714.200 h
RR2 - 507 - 714.100 h
RR3 - 14 - 332.500 h
RR4 -
RR5 -
RR6 -

Engine hours now about 850. The last RR1, RR2 incident was a Porsche tech 'just warming the car up' - I had a letter of apology and some free stuff as a result smile

Awesome cars
