Was discussing pricing of older cars on another thread so decided to start a new thread. Here are a few more examples of in my view dealers just thinking of a silly number and trying it on at silly prices.

200,000 KM 964 RS LHD for £100k is just laughable. Thats £65k at best IMO.

Can't really comment on this 964 3.8RS but at an alleged £350k its very expensive when you think its Carrera GT money. Rare car to be fair though.

Few reps at JZM which also seem very very expensive but they've already been discussed. Can't help thinking if they all reduced their prices by 25% on average the cars would sell. Many of them on SOR so its a matter of educating the vendors.

Added a few more. This turbo should be £50k tops in my view (£45k in trade). I'd buy it for £50k

I bid £15k for this rather lovely 944 turbo and was told they'd turned down £18k for it! Its not an SE from 1988 just a normal low mileage turbo - less desirable cat model

These are asking prices. Not necessarily what they're changing hands at although as indicators go, yeah, they're pretty steep.

Yep, absolutely bonkers! Especially all the replica stuff.

The genuine RSs are what they are, so it's easier to see where your money is going, but these 3.2 Carrera bitsas that have just been stickered up and have had a ducktail fitted are just silly prices.

The 930s show no sign of slowing down. Every few months I'll see a highly priced one and think "Crazy, that must be as high as they can go", then a couple of months later they're even higher.

Yes the days of a good 930 at £20k are over IMO? That was five years ago for one, still most A/C 911's are doing well.
As for 2014 who knows what the classic car market will be it seems to be holding up quite well overall.

Limited numbers now available.How many 964 and 993 Carrera 2s do you see advertised,not many.Yes there are tiptronics and convertibles but the desirable coupes are becoming scarce. When lots of people will buy new 991s and lose £40k to £50k over the first 3 years a good 964 at £30k seems quite reasonable actually.Even if it doesn't go up in value its unlikely to drop like a stone either!

there isn't a 964 c2 or 993 c2 in that list. i agree £30kish for the aforementioned cars if in good condition with lowish miles is fair

993's are overpriced. anything with letters after its name is overpriced. but you can still buy cheap pork, a 944 S2 for half the price of a 968, yes please!

Hmmmm, more like dealers (stealers) are taking the mick on the back of poor returns at the bank.

To drop 25k off the asking is just shocking. I understand those that shout from the rooftops that it's a business and or business model, but cars are bought with the heart more than just about any other thing and a lot of classic dealers know it, that is blatant profiteering IMO

Saying that it's across the board with classics, and some other Marque prices are even madder. Tr4 for 20k? Biggest one though must be the mk1 Austin/Morris Mini Cooper s at 30k. Makes any 3.2/964 seem cheap.

You can get a decent 993 for 20k private and maybe 23 at an indy. I don't think thats expensive.

Obviously if you are obsessed with low mileage then the numbers get daft.

Yep, exactly 5-6 years ago was the bottoming out for 964 and 930 prices.
My mate had a beautiful 930 guards red/linen leather, red piped. He had the Fuchs refurbed, a full windows out respray by another mate with a good body shop. He offered it to me for £16k but I was after a 964 (I bought a C2 for £15k) and I didn't like the brakes or 4 speed box on the 930.

Another mate of ours bought it for about £13.5k in the end!!! He's just been offered £28k trade in without even doing much looking about. He's done nothing but servicing either. Lucky beggar.

Again on the subject of 5 years ago, I sold the 964 C2 for £12k (albeit over Xmas) and bought my mates 964T for £18k. I ended up spending £7k or £8k on it over 5 years and let it go for £25k, which I thought was fair.

How times change. You never know exactly when it will happen, even though you know the cars that may rise, but when they do rise, it happens quickly.
Not a reason to buy a certain model though.
