New Tyre Time .... Who To Use To Avoid Smashed Up Rims ?

Righto .... The current tyres have had it and its time for new rubber in the form of MPSS. I am very nervous about who will replace the tyres for me without damaging the lightweight spyder alloys and wondered if there is anyone in the south east who people can recommend ? Camskill seem the cheapest to supply with other companies like Black Circles and Event Tyres charging a premium of about £150 just to fit. OPC will not touch them as MPSS are not N rated but thats another story , so who is trust worthy ??????

Try Hometyre.co.uk, they use plastic rim protectors, ans the are a reasonable price on the tyres.

There was a thread on this a week or so ago. Event came highly rated. I've used them multiple times and never had any problems. I have always found them close to if not the cheapest bar camskills.
Don't know any pure tyre fitters so never bought from camskills as any saving disappears after fitting an balancing costs and the fear of them fking up my rims.

Blackboots Chesham have a Boss touchless machine. Used these guys several time, top service.

Thanks for the suggestion but they dont cover my area unfortunately. Not bad price though !

I didnt see the thread but have got a price from Event. Maybe I`m old fashioned but £150 sounds like a lot to fit 4 tyres in 20 minutes and expect the rims to be undamaged ... maybe not !

Just looked them up on the net as never heard of them but like the machine they use. Only problem is they do not offer MPSS through their website. I`ll give them a ring as there is a dealer near me and see what they would want just for fitting and balance.

Ive used etyres both for tyres + fitting and for fitting only. They've always been good, no damage to rims. Cost was £20 last time I used them for fitting only, iirc.

I have also used event with no issues and they were the cheapest then.

Last time I ordered form camskill direct to my OPC and my OPC fitted for £80.
These were not N spec so a poor show with your OPC if they don't like to help customers out.
I get my OPC to always swap and fit tyres about.

You could try a pirelli performance centre if you have one local.

A mobile will charge a premium to just fit as they're making the same effort to come out and do the work without any margin on supplying! Breaks their whole business model.

All mobile fitters have been quoted as supply and fit, not fit only.

I use Wheel Works in Crawley for refurbishing my alloys (***keep reading***) and have done an excellent job for me over probably a ten year period.

They have a large turnover of very high quality wheels, exotica too (they had some mad Hummer wheels last time I was there) and obviously take great care with fitting any tyre (new or old) to their customer's rims.

They have always offered to fit new tyres for me at any time whether or not I'm refurbing the rims.

I always source my tyres from elsewhere, and they fit them, perfectly and they even try and line up the red/yellow dots for me.

Try giving them a ring.

I`m seeing that a few of the online places are now showing the MPSS as "N0" rated ??? Have I missed something and the MPSS have now got the "special" rating ???

yes you can buy N spec PSS they are the front tyres off the CGT :-)

but you cannot get the other size, so you could have 2 N spec ones :-)

Today is a learning day ;-) Incidentally I have pursued another OPC and they will fit for me for an hours labour. When I asked about supply and fit , they were £400 off the mark ... go figure ! So , it looks like the cheapest and most risk free way for me will be Camskill to supply and OPC to fit. Piece of mind and all that.

Porsche prices are daft at £100 a tyre more :-)

But they have top kit to fit and balance, as I said they charge me £80 all in to fit.

I've used Event to fit only - I'm surprised they're £150 more so assume you've managed to get a great deal - do you mind saying what your tyre quote is?
