The 993 scuttle rust.
It's an affliction they can all potentially suffer from, especially if they're not cared for; it's a painful affliction they will suffer from if the windscreen was replaced by Edward Scissorhands on a dark and windy night, after a boozed up brawl at the bar.
A newly fitted screen will usually look good, and why wouldn't it? It's sitting where it should be - that's the easy part. But what lurks behind the shiny new screen is something you might not see for while; it might not show until it's too late or, as this chap found out, you inherit the problem when you buy the car.
This is by no means the worst case I've seen or been involved in, but it's typical of just how bad things can get when the attention to detail has been missed or neglected.

Thank you. I wrote a few words about another similar scenario a while back, and I find it is a good reference point for 993 owners. It's a common problem on the cars and I've put a lot of work into putting a few of them right; the blog is one way to show how bad things can get, and hopefully 993 owners will look at this issue with an informed sense of importance.

Interesting read that Glassman, I seem to go through screens like they're going out of fashion in my daily driver (95% motorway) and never really give it much thought when the replacements are going in as I know the car will be traded on long before it's an issue.
The technicians themselves have varied hugely from a young, scruffy guy who was still pissed from the night before I think, to very knowledgable/polite and smart with everything in between. The only common ground any of them seem to have had is a lack of time.
I'm gonna need a new screen on my 6.1 GT3 soon as it has lots of small marks but I'm loathed to play the lottery in who they'll send.

Hi Glassman. I am a new 993 owner in the Scottish Borders,around an hour from Edinburgh and an hour40mins from Glasgow.Although my scuttle shows tiny bubbles I am thinking of having windscreen/rear screen out and a tidy up. Could you message me the names of fitters who you know are experienced with 993 screens in Scottyland thanks.
