Well i'm not sure how this has happened but I purchased my second Porsche today. I'm sure like many of you, I spend a couple of hours a day scouring the classifieds seeing what cars are out there, dreaming. I often pop in to my local OPC (Bristol) to see what they have in stock but I never thought I could afford to buy from them. However and some of you may find this hard to believe but it's always been my dream to buy from an OPC. I fall for all the marketing, I subscribe to all of the Porsche magazines, I live and breathe Porsche everyday and the ultimate thing (apart from buying brand new and collecting from the factory) is to buy one from the OPC knowing that you're buying the absolute best of the breed.
I never thought I would get the opportunity, it's honestly something I have dreamt about, driving your Porsche out of the showroom. Buying from a specialist is great too but nothing beats being in a Porsche dealership. Nothing! The smells, the cars, the coffee. The experience is second to none. I've been fortunate to have the experience through my Dad but doing it myself feels unreal! I don't think I am going to get much sleep over the next few nights...
For those that don't know my history, I have a 986 Boxster S which I have owned for 4 years. It's my perfect car and tbh I don't think I will ever be able to bring myself to sell it. I've spent an awful lot of money on it but it's been off the road for over a year now with engine problems and we don't really have the time to give it the attention it deserves. The engine has been in various pieces over the past year (IMS is fine) and it's believed that it could be the Variocam sensor as the cam runs but it's running extremely rough.
In the meantime i bought a Mercedes CLK to get me around which was a great car but it really wasn't the car for me. I didn't get on with the automatic gearbox but most of all it wasn't a Porsche...it would appear I have caught the bug...badly!
So over the past year I have enquired about various cars, 997's, Boxsters, Caymans, 996's, 996 Turbos but although having the chance to buy there were always doubts in my head about whether it was the right car, sketchy histories, engine problems, mileage. There would always be something in my mind that would put me off. I must admit I have been getting increasingly impatient as I desperately wanted to get back in a Porsche. Yes, I could have fixed the one I already have but I just couldn't commit the time to it.
What started as a normal Saturday, saw some family, then decided to go and see some cars. Popped into Porsche on the off chance, knew they had a yellow Boxster in but I hadn't really paid too much attention to the car as I never thought I was in the position to buy from an OPC. Looked around it, its a yellow Boxster so of course I loved it. Spec on it is great. Price, well lets sit down and do some sums. Jeff and John came back with the sums and I couldn't believe it, it's within my budget! Next thing I know i'm a tad emotional, just overwhelmed by it all as the deal was concluded. Totally unexpected and out of the blue. Yes it may be sad that I got emotional but i've just been brainwashed into Porsche and I never ever thought that one day I would walk into the showroom to pick up my new car. It still hasn't sunk in yet!
So the car...it's a Speed Yellow Boxster, 11 plate, 17k miles, one owner, sport design pack including the Boxster Spyder wheels, PCM 3, heated seats and some other bits and bobs. The car is immaculate, it's so immaculate that they felt it was worthy of being in the showroom rather than outside. It has a great history and it comes with the remaining 6 months of the original warranty plus the two years for buying from them. I get a day at the Porsche experience centre at Silverstone too which as you can imagine i'm pretty excited about!
Hopefully i'll be picking her up on Wednesday so here are the all important pictures....

Awesome!!! Nothing like an impulse buy, best I've done is a house the morning after a huge night on the lash - always blamed a massive hangover for that one!!
Enjoy the car, looks very nice. I also made the jump from 986 to 987 & I think it's a much nicer car.
I'm not far from you over the bridge so may catch up with you one day on a Porsche drive or one of the club meets, TIPEC are a good club to join.

It was a refreshing write up, rather than some of those whom big purchases come easy and like to let everyone know.
Love speed yellow. The wheels are the link here, but if I could have got a speed yellow Spyder, I would have done. (PTS was outside my budget).

Well done on the purchase, the car looks fab in yellow (if only I were brave enough! ) I also love to deal with my local OPC, a great bunch of people who make every visit a pleasure. I've purchased three cars from them and two have been impulse purchases, both S/H and turned out like new with 2 yr warranties which to my surprise once even covered a battery.
Only mistake I made is not very into a Porsche early enough. Enjoy yours and remember they are every day practical sports cars and should not be garage queens.
