Best N-Rated Tyres for 911??? (997 Gen. 2) GTS (RWD/PDK)

Hi All,
Various friends of mine utilise Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres on their cars, and sing their praises, at length! I own a Porsche 911 GTS, and was really looking forward to getting rid of the factory fit (and rubbish) Bridgestone Potenzas and replacing them with the aforementioned Michelins, only to discover they aren't N-Rated. Does anyone know if Michelin has any plans to release these in the near future? My rears are at about 1.8mm at the moment and in dire need of replacement! If not, what are the best alternatives, Michelin or otherwise. I'm not that fussed about wear, but performance is key.

just fit PSS and keep yours while they are still legal for warranty renewal.
other wise as other have said PS2 imo is the best N rated tyre, but way off the performance of a PSS.
Thanks mrdemon. I did think that, actually. Regrettably, as the GTS has centre-lock hubs, the usual suspects such as KwikFit won't touch it. I'd need to go back to a main dealer to get them changed, hence I'll get caught out! Also, your suggestion won't help any potential insurance implications should I crash and need to make a claim. Insurance loss-adjusters are a keen-eyed bunch and I bet they'd spot a set of non N-Rated tyres in a heartbeat!other wise as other have said PS2 imo is the best N rated tyre, but way off the performance of a PSS.

N-rating should only be an issue for Porsche Warranty, not for insurance!!!sidicks said:

Thanks sidicks. To be honest, I had thought about just taking the risk, but the sales guy at Porsche Hatfield (where I bought the car) and the service manager at Porsche Colchester (where I get it serviced) both warned me about my insurers taking a disliking to anything other than what would have been factory-fitted. That, unfortunately, includes N-Rated tyres. Maybe I'll contact my insurers directly and find out if they care or not, and if not, get it in writing!TomButler82 said:

OPC employees would say that!As long as the tyre is road legal, it doesn't matter if it's N rated or not. Obviously speed and load ratings must be equal or higher, but N rating, no.
I am not even 100 per cent persuaded that the warranty is invalidated by using non-n-rated tyres AS LONG AS the tyres are otherwise "approved" by Porsche. The Owners Manual uses the word "approved" and "recommended", and the warranty merely requires compliance with the guidance in the Owners Manual.
There must be a decent argument that tyres that are clearly as good as or better than existing n-rated tyres AND are OEM for some Porsches are "approved" by Porsche; more so if you obtain a specific approval from Porsche along the lines of "Yes. You can fit 19 inch PSS to your 991 S".
Why dont we ask Pistonheads to write to PAG and say "FFS make clear that PSS are fine so everyone can shut the f up on our forums!"?

OP - save yourself a lot of angst and hassle with this thread and OPCs and read the recent MPSS threads which all eventually reach a reasonable conclusion after the usual misinformation and scaremongering.

My 7.2 had Bridgestones on when I bought it in the summer, and I thought they were OK on the road.
I've got MPS2s on now but not had an opportunity to test them fully.
A couple of things I have noticed about the Michelin's is cabin noise is louder on the motorway, and I can't break 30MPG on a long run any more!

There is no way they would ever state that I could fit them as they need to cover their backs, until they have official confirmation.Maybe Pistonheads could write to PAG, intact I hope they do. But I must say, suggesting that they should do so just so "everyone can shut the f up on our forums" is a little rude. I thought the whole point in this forum is that it is a welcoming place for enthusiasts, new or 'experienced', to ask questions without fear of being judged?!

PorkaFly, thanks for your response, but as I mentioned to another contributor just now, but I did find it rather rude. FYI, I had trawled through a number of previous posts, but had not found sufficient or up-to-date information. Probably because I'm new to Pistonheads, as you once were, and needed some guidance. WindyMiller67, thanks for your response. I guess I thought mine were OK to start with, but then as I grew more confident with the car, I found myself wanting/needing more. Friends of mine had used Bridgestones on other vehicles, M3s and similar, and raved about the transformation of their cars when swapping for MPSS, hence my starting this topic. You're the first to say the cabin noise is louder, but I'll bare that in mind, thanks. Also, the mpg does concern me a little!
