Hotel near Silverstone (PEC)

I've now booked my GT3 driving day in for the end of March - I'm picking my new GT3 up on 1st March so this should give me a few weeks to get used to it!

As the day starts at 9am, I'm looking for a hotel nearby - can anyone recommend something suitable - doesn't need to be too flashy, but somewhere that could offer decent food would be good!

The snoozebox is at the circuit and not crazy money (when it's not F1). No 'proper' food though, but some decent puns nearby.

I stayed at this B&B when I went to PEC. http://www.highcrofthouse.co.uk/

Run by a lovely couple and I believe they will even cook for you! It's on the high street so plenty of places to eat within a short walk. Secure (not covered) parking as well.

It's not flash but it's very comfortable, clean and you'll be looked after. We would stay there again.

I looked at this place before booking the B&B I mentioned above. Very mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. I was looking for a Sunday night and it was the same day as the BTCC so everything was booked up locally apart from Whittlebury Hall. I took that as a bad omen!

Although if recommended by someone that has been maybe Trip Advisor ratings are a bit harsh.

Stayed at Whittlebury Hall a few times, this is not a luxury hotel, its a business conference/training type hotel.
It does have some spa facilities, but is not in it's first flush of youth.

Not a bad place to stay, but no Le Manoir.

Convenient and fairly cheap - £150 for dinner, bed and breakfast, so we won't expect too much!

Stayed there twice , you've summed it up well , but to be fair it's ideal for an overnighter.

I certainly wouldn't stop there longer.

It was good enough for Nico Rosberg last time I was there, lot of nice motor racing pics etc in the main bar as well.

If you're wanting somewhere a cut above Whittlebury then Fawsley Hall (about a 20 min drive from Silverstone) is the best within easy reach:

A good way of celebrating the new car. Food is excellent and it's a special place.

I'm a local so hopefully this helps. Whittlebury is OK, but as others here have noted, it's tired and doesn't feel much more than a Holiday inn with a golf course tacked on.

No fresh recommendations, but as the owner of the original thread I'd emphasize what has been said before about Whittlebury Manor - it's convenient and reasonably good value, but by no means a luxury hotel. Its suitability will therefore depend on exactly what you are looking for!!

with regard to the actual PEC has anyone done a skid pan/low grip specific course, as thats what i'd like to do next in my 993?
i dont want to drive Silverstone itself, done that many times, just have a couple of good hours if poss on low grip,kick plate etc.

My wife did it in her 964 Carrera 2 Targa as part of the Porsche YouDrive experience. Absolutely loved it and gave her the appreciation of how quickly the back can come around

When we went we just said what we wanted to do and then went home when we got bored! They were very good to me and gave me a 911 to play in when my GF came in to give the GT3 a rest. Always good doing donuts in other people's cars!! There's little point doing the "road circuit" as the billies going round at a snails pace will get you frustrated!
