Darin Frow of the Mitsubishi Lancer Register has been running a very successful Sprint Series over the last eight years for Evos and Subarus, I spoke to him last year about bringing in Nissan GTRs and competing on a second day at the same circuit. He has looked at costs and has agreed to run a three round series for the GTRs and suggested it was opened up to the Porsche community also which would give a bit of competition between the Porsche and Nissan guys. The GTROC are looking after the Nissan side and have arranged sponsorship with Litchfields who will be providing some trophies and trade support at the venues.
Initially regulations are very loose to enable as many people to compete without restriction on the type of car however the Nissan guys will be running as road registered cars with a current MOT and on road tyres. Fire extinguishers will be required in the car, helmets are compulsory and fire proof overalls and gloves are recommended. Previously the Evo guys have managed to get in about 15 runs during the day and entry costs are £130 per round. The following dates have been booked:
Fri. 28th March Castle Combe
Sun. 1st June Blyton Park
Sun 5th Oct Snetterton

If you're interested in getting involved PM me or stick your name on this thread. I will be at the Autosport Show for all four days on the GTROC stand in Hall 19 if you would like to have a chat about this.

Here's a link to a short promo video done to encourage the GTR guys to get involved:

I doubt it, as at the moment, the costs are reasonible, when the MSA gets involved, the red tape comes out, and the costs spiral out of control, bang goes the budget motorsport.
This is the reason, I gave up racing, sprinting and Tarmac rallying frown

Hi Barry. Welcome to the dark side. I know you from the MLR (Trev-the-Rev over there).

I would love to enter a few rounds of this but for the same reason as I don't do any in my Evo, not being MSA approved would jeopardise my competition license.

Interesting that Fire extinguishers in the car are compulsory but fireproof gloves & suit is only advisory. Exactly the opposite of the MSA Speed requirements.
I might have had a go this year in MSA sprints & hillclimbs but the suit is an expensive (& in my view unnecessary) requirement.

What helmet spec do these event require?

I've seen the thread on there, currently about 10 signed up from Rennlist, Darin could do with about another 10 so if anybody is interested please let us know.
(So far there are 30 GTRs expressed an interest in taking part.)

Trev, why would competing in a non MSA series affect your competition licence? Several of the MLR sprint competitors also hold MSA licences.

Although perhaps not widely publicised, the MSA take a dim view of competition license holders becoming involved in events that have not been approved by them.

The Blue Book (I know) states at C1.1 that "Each of the following is a breach of these regulations and/or supplementary regulations and will lead to disciplinary action being taken".

C1.1.10 goes on to say that "to organise, advertise, enter for, drive in, officiate at, or in any manner whatsoever take part in, a competition, or championship, not organised in accordance in all respects by these regulations".

I know you could possibly get away with not being found out, but I'm not personally willing to risk it.

I think you will find that this is aimed at organisers who try to set up non MSA sanctioned race championships. Individuals taking part in a series such as this will not be affected by the MSA and you would certainly not have your competition licence suspended, it's probably not even legal for them to penalise you for taking part.

Phoenix, can you stick your name down on the Rennlist forum, it's in the 964 section of the forum. This will save having loads of different lists on lots of different forums. If you are going to the Autosport Show this weekend drop by the GTROC stand in Hall 19 for a chat.

This is a good examle of why its often referred to as the 'blur book'. The regulations are often difficult to decipher and are clearly open to interpretation.

I was spectating with a couple of friends at last year's MLRSS round at Combe, and one of these friends who is also an MSA Clerk of the Course raised this very point and was adamant that in a worst case scenario the MSA could revoke your license for contravention of the regs.

I don't want this to develop into a lengthy debate as I know this thread was posted with the very best of intentions. I think we may have to agree to disagree. wink

The Toyota Sprint Series is also non MSA

confused I'm pretty sure that holding an MSA licence doesn't prevent one from having a licence for and entering NASA or Stock car races.

As far as I'm aware, this restriction only applies to UK based events. Afterall, the MSA has little or no jurisdiction outside of the country.

I'm no expert though and am only sharing what I have been led to believe, together with my interpretation of the regs.

Yes but NASA is the UK National Autograss Sport Association (not sure what the UK stock car organising body is called).
