I've read through 3mth of posts and I have searched for relevant terms. I know this question if asked specifically is impossible to answer, but what I want is general advice. The kind of thing a novice Porsche Buyer wouldn't know to ask.

I've been test driving Caymans and Boxsters for a few weeks and I have identified what I believe to be a well priced option at an OPC. Being new to Porsche I want the security of the warranty first time around so I am expecting to pay a premium for that over Indy’s or Private.

I am going to test the car tomorrow and will try and negotiate a cash price there and then. I am also open to taking finance and then paying it off during the cooling period if that gets a better deal but I have no px.

If they refuse to move on the sticker price are there other things that are likely to be of 'value add' to me that are low cost items to them to sweeten the deal? Aside from the obvious full tank of fuel, Road Tax etc., what have others asked for and got?

I have seen a Silverstone Experience mentioned on some posts. Is that linked to the purchase of specific cars via OPCs?

I got silverstone included and the stone chip in front of rear wheels for my year old Spyder. That was all they would do but then they did drop the price by 3k after I'd made a booking to visit from 100 miles away which seem an odd strategy.

If its a keeper, maybe another years warranty but there are lots of exclusions to the dealer years over first two from factory.

I'm looking at 09/10 cars in the mid to high 20's. I dont think that they will have 3k to give me but that won't stop me from asking. Then again, I say that they wont have 3k to give me...

I'm going to ring around a copule of non-group OPCs today with the cars spec's to see what trade in value they would give. It's not bullet proof, but that number plus 2k for warranty should give me an idea of their cost and therefore their potential profit.

As with any dealer, negotiating right at the end of a quarter can pay dividends. On my 997.2 C2S I effectively got a discount of about £3k from sticker price of £46k, although most of that was appeared on the invoice as a somewhat inflated trade-in (relative to what I'd been offered elsewhere) so that the sticker price fiction could be maintained.

I think the consensus is that you will get at most about 10% of sticker price and that they will probably do that by fudging a trade-in price and/or giving you some extras.

I got about 10% off, and when they stuck at not moving another 500 squids, I got them to add some extra warranty options the detail of which I have since forgotten but for which the RRP was 499 squids.

I dont think they are as inflexible as a lot of people would suggest. Personal "charm" and creating the perception that you will be a repeat buyer is probably quite important.

Has anyone been able to obtain a copy of their 111 point inspection for the car? I'd be interested in brake wear, tread etc and I assume the report would contain this info.

If I can't get them to move on price, and there are parts near the end of their life, then I will try and get them replaced free or at cost.

Any near end of life items will have already been replaced on an OPC approved car, but I'd agree it's always worth asking for the inspection report and internal prep invoice - it could even be argued that they should provide this anyway as a matter of course and to not do so is a "mis-leading omission".

Certainly they provide a running report when you have regular service/warranty work done so I can't imagine getting a copy of the 111 report would be much of a problem.

In my very recent experience, they were very reluctant to reduce the sticker price, but then they had just reduced it by £2K themselves (unsold in nearly 2 months). But they did throw in plenty of extras at no cost i.e. gap insurance, paint protection, road tax, child seat prep and a discount on a set of winter wheels. They also increased my part ex by £1k. My wife worked out (from the sales tax) that their internal profit on the car was about £500.

Did you get them to fit Isofix as an after market?

ISOFIX and passenger airbag disable lock (997.2). According to the user manual it was always a dealer fit option and not available as a factory fit option. Retail cost of fitting is around £300 I believe.

Something along the lines of them only being able to charge tax on their profit margin, but I'm not an accountant myself.

Excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that if ordered new the car would arrive from Porsche without the Isofix and the OPC would then be responsible for fitting the kit?

Time to search for 987.2 Isofix to see what I can find.

Isofix and airbag deactivation is more like £500 having phoned a few OPC before getting it done on a Cayman

I believe so according to my 997.2 user manual "The key switch for switching off the passenger airbag and the ISOFIX attachment bracket are NOT installed at the factory. They can be retrofitted"

Good to know. As a second car and with kids aged 3+ I'm not overly concerned but if the price won't budge I wouldn't mind this as an extra.

That's kind of right - on the VAT margin scheme the gross margin between selling price and purchase price is deemed to include VAT (so if they bought for £30,000 and sold for £33,600 the £3,600 margin is actually deemed to be £3000+VAT, regardless of what may have been spent on the car by the dealer) but the customer would never see this figure, hence my question.
