OPC - Parts prices increases from 1st Jan

Afternoon all,

Just had an unbelievable conversation with parts dept at OPC.

I've been scoping out buying a series of parts for a while, but had been holding off buying them whilst I gather funds together.

I received quotes for all parts in December which were typically expensive but not out of line with what you'd expect from an OPC.

I've now come to buy, and having phoned the OPC today to place the order, I discovered some of the parts prices had more than DOUBLED!!!

An example:

Front PU for 997 GT3 - 997.505.961.90

December price - £1315.20 (inc VAT)
January price -£2885.20 (inc VAT)

Having quivered that the increase, I was reliably informed that this was not unusual, and formed part of the 1st January review of parts prices. The parts team didn't seem surprised, and even commented "we thought the price we quoted you a few weeks ago seemed cheap"

Now I know we have rising inflation, and kind if expected that there may be a slight increase. But a 100% increase in parts prices is crazy.

Not had a chance to check out any if the usual parts everyone buys to see what else has been impacted, but wouldn't be surprised if porsche have noticed that things like 3rd Radiator retro fit are underpriced, and adjusted pricing accordingly.

Anyway, whinge/rant over. Guess I'll have to start looking for parts on eBay again.

That's crazy. Cross check with another OPC maybe part of another group.

For parts they were usually very competitive.

Tried a few OPCs inc Reading and same response from all.

Starting to think it may be a system error (hopefully).

Might try contacting Porsche UK, either it's an error, or there milking us Porsche owners for every penny.

Frustration given I don't have many other options to buy elsewhere if I want to maintain my OPC warranty,.

I dont know how hard they are to get, but why not just get a good secondhand pu?

I assume you are rebuilding a damaged one?

Porsche have been doing this for years. A lot of the classic parts have doubled in the last couple of years. There are always surprises though as somethings are mental cheapness.

Actually the price you have posted is exc VAT:

997.505.961.90 is £3390.11 inc VAT

Few on eBay but they are typically severely damaged or off GT3 cup cars, which are also likely to be damaged and requiring a lot of repairs. Especially on mountings which are fiddly to fix and need to be strong to keep bumper in shape.

Although I'm sure they are repairable, it would take a lot of bodyshop time, and if it wasn't 100% perfect it would be one of those things that would just niggle at me.

That said given the OPC prices this is now sounding like a sensible option.

If only I'd just stuck the order in last week.. Bugger!

Hi To Elliot,most German manufactures have price updates in January, and yes the Porsche increase is correct as i have the "partslink portal" access to order my parts from porsche and any of the 30 other listed vehicles.

Nothing unusual here....

928 cambelt gears went from £150 to £470 overnight... The pinion/crown wheel for the G28.50 transaxle went from £490 to £1800...

At least it appears the increases are not confined merely to watercooled cars...

I found this out this time last year too and posted on here as well. Try Ebay Germany, I see a few on there regularly.

Porsche have a monopoly on niche parts like this.
There is Nowhere else to source Original parts so they have the opportunity to charge what they want and maximise profits.

Whether this is a good long-term strategy is a different matter. To me it seems quite short sighted, especially as parts were already at a premium to start with.

If you have a formal quote check the validity, usually it is stated 30 days/60 days etc. (could be a loophole for you)
I am also in the spare parts business, although for trucks not cars, we have some crazy increases from suppliers due to low volumes/higher costs etc. also we have to find many alternative suppliers due to many going out of business, this all drives up the prices.

Saying that we work on 3-5% overall price increases where possible.

Outrageous price increases but it's worth noting that you get a 10% discount if you're a PCGB member.

Reading are doing 30% discount on parts for cars over 4 years old I think.
