Hi there chaps

I have been looking for a 996 for a few months now, has to be manual, beyond that, I don't really mind. Things i'd like in an ideal world are:

Sub 50k miles
Low owners
Nav
Xenons
Bose
Paintwork condition is paramount (I run a Detailing company, OCD goes crazy), I can deal with swirls, but I don't want a car that has had a full repaint or filler in..

Recent clutch change, recent rads, recent brakes would be lovely - Many out there seem to have never had a clutch or rads, which is impressive/worrying with an impending bill!

Colour wise, don't mind, they all look pretty good

I keep seeing people posting on here about possibly selling their 996 Turbo, so if anyone is looking to sell, I have money waiting for the right car. There is no budget as such, but the price I will pay depends on the car, be that 20k, 24k or 26k etc.

Just seems to be a shortage of the good ones!

RSJ in Slough always have a few in. Good standard of cars but you may have to pay a little more than your expecting.

Wanting a fresh car for £26k may be hopeful. I got my 996 turbo x50 at RSJ so can recommend them.

Why do you want nav?
IMO it looks very dated now and isn't a patch on a Tom Tom.

Just my thoughts but I'm so glad mine hasn't got it.

P.s cracking choice but I would say that!

No real reason, to be honest. It isn't essential, but I like (albeit not very useful) toys & buttons

I just got one, went slighly higher miles as I had a price ceiling. When looking I definately found that the good ones go quickly - and I know that the trade can't get enough of them. To misquote a man in the business - they are the cheapest 911 turbo you can buy, they still have some steering feel, values are starting to creep up and its not going to sh*te itself tomorrow..

I'll second that nav comment, totally pointless. Mine came with a touchscreen aftermarket jobbie which works way better and looks the part:

I'm also looking for one! Have viewed several but have not quite been able to agree terms on one yet. Maybe I am in cloud cuckoo land but I have been unwilling to let my 996 Carrera go for the prices offered. Suppose I need to get off my arse and try to sell privately beforehand.

PCM 2 is shocking but does improve a little with the latest disc. Still remember driving across Exmoor and the screen was just green. No roads nothing!
The dash looks better with it than a standard din I think and I'd bet it would be a knocking point for the trade for one without.
As has been said a good retro install is the way to go.

Why do you think a sub 50k mile car would need a clutch? Mine has slightly more than that and as far as I know it is on the original clutch. I've owned the car since 36k miles and I remapped it after 12 months. Oh, it's not for sale! 😁

Had my 03 Turbo in for a RMS leak couple of months back. Had a chance to check out the original clutch. Still new. Really. New friction material thickness dimension is 1.7mm and that's what I measured. Tech said the clutch looked new. Oh, 110K+ miles on the car.

I've got one, bought for £23.5k from 911V. One of the early ones and 76k on the clock, but I like higher mileage on older Porsches for value for money reasons. Mine had been meticulously cared for, had huge service history and lovely paint. Colour was vitally important for me, I didn't particularly want X50 (how much faster do you need to go??) and definitely didn't want nav... so I was happy.

Just goes to show that there's a 996 Turbo for everyone. Hope you find yours! They're amazing!

It may well cost you 30k for those demands.

You think????

Taking a quote from the op :- "Recent clutch change, recent rads, recent brakes would be lovely - Many out there seem to have never had a clutch or rads, which is impressive/worrying with an impending bill!"

Mine has had all the above plus condensers, new Turbo's, shields, bolts, turbo oil pipework, all coolant hoses running from engine to rads, hydraulic hoses (steering and brakes), steering rack, drive shafts, clutch accumulator.

And it's detailed by Glyn O'Donnell (Glynwaxmaster). I need a second service book as every stamp box is now taken.

I've always thought mine was worth about £20k tops. Are good Turbo prices really starting to increase?smile

With all that work done, great service history and obviously looked after probably got to be worth £20k+,dependant of course on year and mileage.

Don't buy on mileage, but what's recently been done.

These cars generally "suffer" from very well known but non major issues which don't seem to be particularly mileage related, other than that, mileage itself seems relatively harmless.

So you could pay a premium for a 40k miler that will need 6k spending within the next 10k miles, or you could pay less for a 60k miler that has had most stuff sorted and improved upon* that won't need money spending other than on regular servicing for quite a few miles yet.

  • Such as, rad and condenser replacement and mesh installation to prevent a premature repeat. Or, turbo heat shield studs and nuts replaced with more durable items. You get the picture.

I know it is stating the bleeding obvious....but
A mileometer only tells you how many miles the car is alleged to have done....It does not tell you anything about the condition of anything.
Buy a good car...not a good speedo
