991 GT3 Clubsport Harnesses

OPC Silverstone still don't want to fit my harnesses as Porsche AG haven't supplied fitting instructions…
Anyone else got this issue? Are they being very risk averse (product liability etc) or just anal?
If any 991 CS owner has their stuff fitted can you get the instructions in the post to Towcester?. If not, can GT3 Product Manager, James Eastwood, please sort this out!

This is very timely, I wanted to post on this topic. Am locking my configuration tomorrow and I almost certainly going for the CS. I am a novice re harnesses, didn't even have them on my lotus.
My question is.. Are they really all that useful/safer? I just wonder why they come as optional equipment and one that dealers don't even want to fit..
Also.. If they are fitted I guess you can still use the normal seatbelt for town driving or they would be so impeding that you'd be better off wearing them?
Lastly, on the old 997 were they straight forward to fit? I.e. Can I have them fitted for a track day and as easily remove them for normal driving?
I am in 2 minds re red normal seatbelts too.. In case it becomes too much red with the harnesses, stitching etc... :-)

These are the easiest items in the world to install, no different from installation on any of the previous GT3's
One comment above is using harness on the road is not recommended as your visibility will be seriously impaired, i.e. ability to see vehicles coming from your left (in a right hand drive vehicle)
Also not when using your harness your seatbelt alarm will be activated for around 2 minutes

Clearly they hold you much more firmly in your seat when on track, but less suitable for road driving (IMO) - restricted vision, mobility etcMy question is.. Are they really all that useful/safer? I just wonder why they come as optional equipment and one that dealers don't even want to fit..

I asked a similar question when I was considering adding CS sport to my car - I think the shoulder belts can be stored behind the seat (and threaded through the seat back when you want to use them). Likewise I think the lower belts are fed through the seat base and can also therefore be moved out of the way for daily use, allowing to use the norm seatbelts.rosino said:

See above - my understanding is that they can be moved out of the way for daily use, but removing them entirely (on a regular basis) is unlikely to be practical.rosino said:

Not the case. The light and chime will go on. Most people use a dummy to put into the slot. Alternatively you take the normal seat belt around the back of the seat or use the passenger seat belt. 5 point harnesses are much better on track as they keep you firmly in your seat and you can concentrate on steering rather than using the steering wheel to keep your balance. On the road this is a real disadvantage as you cannot lean forward to check traffic coming out of T-junctions or look over your shoulder when reversing. N24 said:

It wont. Plug the standard belt in around the back of the seat or use a blank buckle thing. I have seen some strange attempts at wrapping the belts to the roll bar..Some good info here on how to fit, wrapping, angles etc.

I don't know about a 991 but in a 997 the seatbelt bonging can be disabled altogether in a few minutes with Porsche diagnostics.

Thanks for the replies - I had been told that I had to buy this all at order time (eg the harness for passenger side) as it would be "properly fitted" and aftermarket ones (even Schroth) would not work with the electronics.
Next I'll be told the sat nav doesn't do 7-digit postcodes or accept routes with way-points :-)

I only ask as when I've got my harness on in my GT3 (996.2 CS) the "no seatbelt" light flashes on the dash but hitting enter on the computer gets rid of it and it doesn't make any noise at all. I'd always wondered if the Club Sports with harnesses fitted had the annoying noise disable from new?
Obviously the 991 is much newer than the 996 so things have maybe changed.
Just brilliant, what they can dream up, 6 point harness working with electronics, what will they think of next. When I recently changed over from a 997.1 to 997.2 the salesman from one of the better OPCs from what I read on here, called me up to tell me I had not left the fire extinguisher or 6 point harness, these were required he said as I had traded in a clubsport............LOL bless them, I then reminded them they sold me a clubsport with no belts or extinguisher. I had left them at the hotel room prior to picking up the car, that way I was covered no matter what equipment they gave me.
