New car refurbed part??

I have a real dilemma and wonder what thoughts others would have, and is there even an answer to it. I bought a new 991 in September 2012 after 3 days discovered it had an oil leak! Anyway I was without the car for 6 weeks (took that long to get part) but OPC Chester provided another new C2S for me to use, also between Chester and Porsche GB by way of compensating me they sent me on a Precision driving course at Silverstone so overall I was kept fairly happy. The only other place my car has been is OPC Bolton for a sunroof rattle which took about 3 days. So now the dilemma washing my car yesterday I noticed flaking on the headlight !! yes that's what I said flaking! Now I know that headlights can be refurbed these days if scratched (mark flatted out and headlamp lacquered) but I have never had any bodywork of any type done to my car other than me touch in the odd chip. How can I have a headlight with a lacquered type coating on it? Is this how they are from the factory? Nothing on N/S headlamp certainly no sign of flaking. Taking car in tomorrow they say they'll take pictures and send to Porsche but what if they turnaround and say..."well you must have had it done" I want a new fing headlamp!!! Thoughts??

It sounds like a warranty claim to me. What is it thats 'flaking'? Any pics?

Seen a bit of this reported on planet 9 with 981's - seems to be some faulty laquering - US dealers have been replacing.

Thanks for post, really quite pleased to hear that. Really didn't imagine that headlamps would have any sort of coating on, I actually run a bodyshop and have never seen this before other than refurbs.

Plastic headlamps need a coating for UV protection. It's what you see breaking down on the surface, on older cars.

Never seen it before, have seen them lose clarity and yellow, have seen them with lots of fine scratches and dulled down, but never flake!!

All post air-cooled cars have plastic headlamps.
