As per the thread title, I'm toying with the idea of getting a mk1 GT3, And I can't find a single example. I know they were reasonably rare, but I've always found a few for sale, until now. frown

I've been looking for a while and they seem to go up for sale very rarely...

That Zanzibar car is lovely?!

Will be following this thread with interest!

There's quite a few members on here with Mk1s but not many for sale ATM.

I've counted I think 7 for sale since I got mine in June. All have sold relatively quickly apart from the Seal Grey Spanish car and the car at JZM, I guess the body mods will put some buyers off but as above, underneath will be a very good car.

You know anything about the seal grey car?

I'm half tempted as it's so hard to find RHD and it appears pretty good value against mileage!?

Possibly not a bad 'investment' as LHD markets continue to recover?!

Don't know anything about it sorry but it's missing the buckets. I guess long term will depend on how the Euro fares against pound ?

I am sure these will appreciate over time but the UK seems hotter than most places for collectable cars, at the moment... I am sure the EUR/GBP will hve a lot to do with it but I am also thinking the car market MAY hot up in Europe once they have more disposable... Anyway, I'd buy one to drive, I just don't know if I could be bothered with LHD in the UK unless it was going to make me some money 10 years (or more) down the line...

Seems a good deal but was there a buyer premium etc to be added on after?

A rare opportunity indeed. As mike says there's only a handful come up for sale each year.
Barely ever double figures per year and out of those there are literally only one or two Clubsports.

As is often said, they aren't for everyone, but those who enjoy them, really enjoy them, hence they don't get passed around that much. I hope to keep mine for life.
I'm on my phone so no gratuitous pics. wink

The gt3/1s are sitting in garages with their anxious owners hoping they rise in value like their houses. If you are looking to one of these as an investment rather than for driving you would be advised to look elsewhere in the sense that other variants will give you a greater return on your money. There tend to be no real bargains in the car world- the price of cars tends to be a v accurate reflection of supply and demand. In other words, cars tend be a "bargain" or "one to watch" when they are not obviously great (in relative terms) when new. My frank appraisal of this model is it's extremely able but visually unappealing, the latter being problematic in terms of long term valuation. Contrast with 993s which although archaic seem to power on in terms of value and desirability. If you would buy for the track then fair play to you, a good choice, although generally I'm not a fan of porsche on track as I will always annihilate one in proper lightweight track car. Good luck in your hunt pal.

After i bought mine this time last year there was a small spate of them for sale, at least 2 or 3 more speed yellows at rpm, hairpin and the like with bigger and bigger asking prices .... Not seen any good ones since though. One of the last cars to fall off the radar. It will shortly be time to get a good 997 gt3.2 or 3.8 RS, they will disappear next without question. Get in whilst you still can.

Not really but I'll let your totally subjective rant pass me by. wink

Most owners are enjoying them in a not too dissimilar way to 993 owners. That being driving them on high days and holidays, after all who would use a '6 GT3 as a daily!? If that is actually code for anxiously waiting for the value to rise, then it's a new one on me and again the owners of 993 you seem to champion, could be said to be doing the same.

As for looks, ok we get it! The headlights aren't round, shock horror.
For those people who are happy to sacrifice the poseur aspect for the driving involvement, the car is actually aging nicely with the perfect rear wing and split rims.
It's all opinion. I personally think the 993 is the most overrated 911 ever, but I don't go round shouting about it as I know to their owners they represent perfection and that's great.

Jeez, I thought most people had got over 996 headlamps by the millennium. wink

As for your view of lightweight track car vs 911. Totally different challenge. Do trackdays in a lightweight and you just hit more traffic.

Ok so it's a personal thing but there's nothing "visually unappealing" about this

I think annihilate may be the wrong word. In the right hands, a well prepared 996 GT3 can be every bit as quick as almost any Caterham on most circuits, and only a tad slower than the Radicals. They do require a certain technique though.

Lots consider the 964 the b*stard love-child of the early air-cooled cars (from a looks perspective), hasn't hurt RS values one iota. The Mk1 996 GT3 will be no different.
The 964 has supermodel looks compared to the 996.1 from a looks perspective, just look at how quickly good 'cooking 964's' get snapped up!

They're seperated by 10yrs, so difficult to compare them. A better indication would be to compare current 996.1s to what 964s were doing 10yrs ago. Things tend to go in cycles and rarely deviate much/for very long.

As an owner you could say I'm biased but I'd be happy just to wipe my feet when I'm ready to move mine on, it's a refreshing change to spunking 5-10K a year on newer toys. As for the looks, I think it's starting to age quite well - I was never a fan untill one day I sat at the rear corner of a standard 3.4 on the M25 for long enough and thought "actually that looks just like a Porsche" rest is history and I'm finding more and more people saying the same.
