991 GT3 detailing and paint protection film

Car arrives at Swindon OPC next week.
Need car detailing and film applied.
Obviously not a job for dealer due to warranty !
Has anybody had this applied to there car ?

Does car have any areas covered as standard(as per 997 GT3) ?

Has my new Cayenne done at Valet Magic in Camberley. Machine polish and complete front end clear wrap. Had other cars done their previously. Faultless and highly recommended. Robbie is the boss, very high quality work.

I'd pick a wrapping/paint correction specialist over a Pork specialist for this sort of work.

Paintshield - highly recommend them

Had my whole car done 4.5 years ago - 52k miles and not a single stone chip.

At the least I'd have the front end kit applied. They can do it at the OPC I think, or have your car collected on a truck.

You could get KDS to do the detailing too before applying the film - and I think Paintshield can apply the film at KDS workshop. They detailed mine recently too - though they detailed the film itself and it came out awesome...

Definitely go with Paintshield. Certainly for the front end and if you can afford it get the whole car done! Had mine done at the OPC by Paintshield prior to delivery.

So I take it the Porsche paint warranty is definitely not effected..?..

Had it done at Silverstone. Not sure if it would affect warranty, but they allowed the fitter from Paintshield to come down and apply the film in a warm and dust free area.

Front area protection inc bonnet and mirrors. Saw a Merc yesterday that had only half bonnet done and it looked horrid with the line running across. Also think film was not ultimate quality as it wasn't 1 piece for the bumper but rather multiple sections joined together.. Looked pretty nasty, guess quality of installer and material is paramount.

Can you see a difference in colour to the rest of the car where the film is?. The film use to go a yellowish colour after a bit of time, is that still the case.?.

No it doesn't go "yellow" anymore. I have the old and new film on my car and there is a clear difference. I think the new Xpel ultimate has clear coat on top and is self healing. Most people cannot tell the film is on the car... Especially the new film because it is so good.

Seems crazy to me to pay £100k + for a car and stick a form of sellotape on the paintwork. I'd repaint the chips as and if needed. Cheaper and preserves the integrety of the car.

Porsche use water based paint that I am very disappointed with.
It does not have the mechanical strength of the previous paint systems,
The bonnet chips soo easily.
Gave up and had to have a film after paint.
Used Paintshield up in Peterborough, very good too.

I let PS do all my cars, on my 991s PS,acutely made me money, ie, an allowance was factored into the PX price for a front end paint,(over 10 track days )this was 2 x the cost of the paint shield......when the PS was removed the paint was as new, no allowance required

You can't respray your lights or indicators. In fact after 52k motorway miles the only stone chips I have are on the rear air intakes and windscreen. I replaced the air intakes but the windscreen is ok for now...

This stuff is amazing.

I had my 997S done when new in September 2007. It hasn't discoloured at all and, though there are a couple of small marks on the film, no chips in the areas covered. It is Ventureshield film.

Also, though I only had half of the front done, the line is not at all evident unless you really look for it, but that might be paint colour dependent. Mine is Meteor.

Hi, I was involved in this when I was Stateside.

The film you want on your car is the SunTek film. No BS, the providers back home are migrating to that film as it really is a better film. Check-out any US forum for testimonials. I was also at SEMA and 3M were supposed to be previewing their new film but it's not ready yet; that might be something to watch out for. Either way, XPEL is pretty old now and needs to be revised soon in as they're getting left behind. You also get warranty for 5yrs with SunTek too.
