Ive got 2 fully comp multicar quotes from Aviva (current provider) and Admiral (last years insurer) for our 3 cars.
A look over the level of cover shows they are very similar, but Admiral are £200 cheaper, maybe because they want to win new business?
The Defaqto website gives Aviva 5 stars and Admiral 3 stars. On paper there's hardly anything between the cover levels, so Im wondering is there more too it than the cover level ?

The cynic in me thinks there all the same when you come to make a claim anyway rolleyes

Any opinions ?

I'm with Admiral for my GTS, cheapest out there by a mile. I work in the industry, forget about the Defaqto ratings. Unless the multicar policy is different to the single car, you reserve the right to use whatever garage you want for repairs (although they'll obviously try to get you to use one of theirs). Although the vehicle is insured for market value (which is the retail not trade price in the trader guides) and this is likely less than the true market value, the market itself shows you wouldn't be able to replace for what they'd likely offer you. Cue a bit of complaining, gathering evidence etc and they'll soon up the offer.

Admiral were by miles the cheapest for me too this time round, they are obviously on some sort of drive.

The only other thing worth mentioning is that Admiral are one of the few companies that count Speed Awareness Courses as a conviction....

You might want to try a broker for multi car as they have access to other specialist insurers. I know Heritage classic car do these types of policy and also provide an account manager for all your enquiries - you might prefer that to big call centres, details at http://www.heritage-quote.co.uk/multi-car-policy.c...

We had 2 cars on an Admiral multicar policy as their 'first year deal' was a clincher. When renewal came the price had increased so much we found we could insure both cars cheaper on separate policies with one of their main competitors.

This is par for the course with Admiral. Every year their renewal quotes are off the charts. I price each car individually on the comparison websites. Admiral are generally near cheapest per car (way cheaper than their renewal quotation) and then call Admiral with the quotation references.

They then match the quotes and deduct a further multi-car discount.

It seems a ridiculous song and dance to have to go through, but results in hundreds of pounds saved.

To my mind, bad tactics by Admiral but there you go.

My experince of insurance company's is they all do this. Get you on board with a cheap quote and up the renewal hoping you'll pay and wont shop around.

Oh well, they play their games and we play ours......
