Independent warranties?

I live was down in the South West, so a fair distance from those garages on the list that offer the best warranties and maintenance plans for Porsche.
I'm tempted by 997s but would like to make sure there is a warranty out there that covers for engine failure (should the worst happen), but concerned that a lot of the independent warranty companies can view engine failure as wear and tear.
Any suggestions?

Other option is to buy a cheaper car and put the savings away just in case and factor in the saving on not paying for a warranty each year.

Also factor in resale. You won't get your money back on a (unused) warranty. You might on a gen2.
I'd obviously be buying a car, but I'd be much more comfortable (in fact wouldn't own one without one) with a warranty that I could have for however long I chose to keep the car for - so not just the 6 months / year / 2 years etc.Also factor in resale. Seconded.Plus, and I don't know this for a fact (sorry Tom), but strongly suspect, that the 911V boys would collect/drop off your car in the event of a warranty claim...so where you live isn't so relevant.
I was with Hartech for the few years I owned my 996 turbo even though I live 300 miles away.
I had national breakdown cover and so the distance thing wasn't really an issue. A once a year trip to Bolton wasn't too bad, and I usually just left it with them over the Christmas period to do service, MOT and sort any issues needing sorted. Planned early enough, First Class train tickets back home were normally quite cheap. The main downside of the distance thing was having to wait to get small niggles sorted.
Overall I’d recommend it and think in terms of cost it probably saved me money overall, added to the fact that if I had any major issues, I would have definitely been far better off.
In terms of resale, it probably helped too (personally, I'm always far more comfortable buying a second-hand car if it has some existing warranty cover).
Hartech are decent blokes to deal with, obviously they’re a business and their raison d'etre is to make money, but my verdict is that they are fair and honest, and if I were in the same position again, I’d go with them again.
