New 981 PDK software

I've just had my PCM maps updated at the OPC, and while it was in a couple more service bulletins came up and have been done. Fuel filler cap solenoid, which is a well-known problem on here I think (mainly 991?), although I've not suffered at all. And new PDK software. The OPC didn't know what either of the updates did.

Mine is a September 2012 built 981.

Previously, if you were in 'D' and selected a lower gear for engine braking, the PDK box would move to temporary manual mode, but then just go back to 'D' and a higher gear after the normal 5ish seconds (if no more manual gear changes were made). Always thought this was a shame, and I'd move the stick over to full manual if I wanted to use engine braking.

But what it now does is hold the manual mode while in 'D' for as long as it's using engine braking. Makes much more sense. And braking with the pedal doesn't make it drift back to auto if there's still engine braking. Much better. It'll drift back to full auto after a few seconds on the gas again.

There may be other changes, but they might be more subtle, or I might have made them up - I haven't done many miles yet.

[And you do also get the oh-so-handy 'upshift' indicator in the dash if you're driving in manual but not in sport mode - I think that was only with the manual 'box before.]

Has anyone else had it done and noticed any changes?

i Stevod how did you pick up on the updates was it in the dealer for work or did they give you a recall request, mine is also 2012 perhaps i should have mine done ?

It's not a recall, just a service bulletin. Mine was only in for a PCM map update and they came up automatically. There was an earlier one for engine mounts too. Your OPC should be able to look up what's applicable to your vehicle. If you need the fuel filler cap to be done then I'd take it in - that seems to have led to a few disappointing scenes at petrol stations!
