Insurance........any ideas?
Discussion
Hi all,
AGE: 28
CAR: 00 BOXSTER 2.7
NCB: 3 years (no accidents / claims).
Licence: Full EEC (2 points).
My existing insurer will do £1,500 on renewal.
Next best is Liv. Vict. £1,900.
Anyone have any recommendations for brokers or should I resign myself to renewing with Norwich Union.
Thanks,
Adrian

my mate has his own brokers. He is very fair and will take into account things like not commuting. He recognises that many people own nice cars but leave them on the drive all day and use the tube (ie relatively low risk)
call Neil Adams at Harrington Adams 0207 377 5850, mention me, Guy, and that I recommended him.
Its a 1st class operation and only uses quality Lloyds underwriters. He did my boxster and now the Cayenne S.
Let us know how you get on

RE HALIFAX: I have nothing against call centres. Ireland, Wales and Scotland have made a lot of money from down the years and why should it be any different for India.
What I do expect is a basic level of understanding of your market.....
Getting an insurance quote yesterday from the Halifax
.......(CCE = call centre employee)
CCE: Have you any endorsements on your licence?
ME: Yes, I received two penalty points in Ireland
CCE: Irland - can you spell that please
ME: I-R-E-L-A-N-D
CCE: Oh, IRELAND
ME: Yes, Ireland (phew, back on track)
CCE ...and where in the world would Ireland be?
ME: EUROPE, it is that island next to the UK of which the Northern six counties are in the UK etc........
I rang the customer car section of Halifax to complain and they had a go at their company on my behalf.........doesn't inspire confidence in the organisation.

London Irish said:I understand and agree with your point but I suspect you could get the same impression of all the insurance companies if you speak to the wrong person also the original post was asking for cheap insurance and in my experience "cheap" and "good service" rarely marry... actually in my experience "good service" and "I'd like to make a claim please" don't seem to go together either

Dern,
Don't get me wrong......I rarely go for the cheapest policy (need to make sure I have access to a Porsche approved bodyshop and that all mods (factory or otherwise) are covered)...and thank you for your recommendation...it is of great assistance to get pointers from other Porsche owners. As it turns out Halifax could not help as I am under 30. I do know that lots of Porsche owners have nothing but good things to say about Halifax.
My original request was for broker recommendations who ordinarily provide a more personal service. I was just a little surprised that getting below £2K was so difficult!

London Irish said:No worries. I must admit that my view of insurance is rather warped by the fact that I claimed on one accident and it added so much to my car policies and bike policy for a number of years afterwards it would have been cheaper to push the car in the canal and say no more. I think if I had a half decent car (or at least one that was worth anything) I'd want decent cover/service too.

Good luck with your search,

I just asked for a quote on a 997s from egg and they quoted £973.35. Needed a tracker but still £400 cheaper than the nearest rival!!
That also included use for business and full replacement cost if lost/stolen/unrepairable during first year.

Try Natwest, got my Noble M12 GTO 3R insured for just £545!! You get discounts for being an Advantage Gold customer and having your home insurance with them.
Now THAT is cheap.
Yep, renewal was £890 which is cheap in itself but with a few adjustments ie. lower annual mileage (was 10k now 6k), lower value of car (was 58k now 46k) removal of bonus protection (i have another car so can use Max NCD from that if i ever make a claim) lowered premium by £150 alone plus 10% discount for home insurance (very cheap there too, get a quote and see!!) and another 10% for being an Advantage Gold Customer
