997.2 Heat Shields

On service was notified by my OPC that the heat shields over the CATS were corroded, cost £680 to replace. They are £87 each and as they were replacing the plugs they had already removed them! I declined their kind offer and managed to persuade the receptionist to let me into their hallowed halls of engineering to see, it would seem that there is a wee bracket attaching them to the CATS or manifold on the lower edge with presumably something like a pop rivet. I could detect no apparent need for this attachment at all as the 'ally' shields are bolted to the crankcase. Any experience out there of this? Further more, they didn't consider this within the warranty.

They also wished to change the air con gas. I said I would wait until the condensers rotted.

Why was I there and not at my trusty Indie? Well, due to a few issues when I purchased the car they offered a 50% discount which brought the major service down to the Indie pricing and I thought on a four year old car that I would, at least for this service, get the dealer stamp.
