Dear all,

I am visiting you from the Maserati room, as I am looking at defecting to a Porsche C4S, but do not have knowledge on price.

I have seen one with the following spec for £59,995:

2003 - Silver with black leather.
7,000 miles
Sports exhaust
Sunroof (standard?)
Bi-Xenon's (standard?)
Heated seats (Standard?)and a couple of other nominal extras.

What do you think I should be paying for the car?

Regards
Rob

Just regarding standard items...
Mine is a Mar 2002 car and doesn't have Xenons or heated seats..or a sunroof. So either those ore extra's or the guy who spec'ed mine was on a weightsaving drive Regarding cost have you searched www.porsche.co.uk ? That gives yu a very good idea of what the top end price will be. When I got mine last spring (secondhand from an OPC) I got about £2k off the £57.5k list.

I work with somebody who recently asked for a trade in price against a 997 for a very similar car to that, and it was a lot less than £60k!

If that price is for a UK-supplied car at a main dealer, it seems cheap, so I assume it is either an independent or a private sale? If it isn't UK supplied, is it C16 spec? If not, I think it is probably overpriced. If so, seems about right. If it is a private sale, i personally would try to find a car for the same price through a non-franchised dealer

Looks like i'm wrong - £60k is a main dealer price for a good spec car with low miles.

the price seems to be about right for that age and mileage. heated seats, sunroof and xenon lights are not standard - mine does not have xenons at least. have a look at dovehouse, i think they've got a silver / black c4s too.

either way the car comes fairly well loaded in any event.

get it - you won't regret it.....

Red,

C16 means it has been built to UK spec,

Non c16 cars should be fine, as the difference between them can be as minor as chassis protection sprays or the temperature that the engine fan cuts in etc (was told this by OPC).

The biggest problem you will see is come trade in time, this is when anyone who knows this scenario may turn there nose up at such a car.

The price you are saying seems to be spot on for C16 car, if it aint then walk away IMHO.

BTW, i had a C4S, bloody lovely car !!!

Thanks Glen,

I have just found out is is a Cyprus import with one owner that has been spec'd to UK. (C98 apparently)

Are imports a problem with Porsche dealers? I had a problem selling an Audi that was under a year old because it was an import.

Sounds like I should stick to UK cars and dealers with warranty.

Thanks for all the help.

Red,

I unknowingly bought C98 Boxster, and didn't know anything about it until resale time back to an OPC.

I reckon i lost approx 2-3k on resale, but paid full whack when i got it. So you could say i learned the hard way (wish i new of pistonheads then !!)

Having said that, i ran the car for three trouble free years, and had no problem with OPC on warranty issues.

I just think its the word 'import' that puts people off.

£60k is full retail price for a C16 car from an OPC, so I would give this one a miss.

Hi Red

For around your budget, early 996 turbos come into play.

A few cars cut and pasted from a national search on www.porsche.co.uk

911 (996) Turbo Coupé 2001 420 bhp 4-WD Automatic Arctic
silver
metallic 18,950 m 09/00 £56,995 UK-Colchester 100

911 (996) Turbo Coupé 2001 420 bhp 4-WD Automatic Black
metallic 31,000 m 06/00 £59,850 UK-Fort Kinnaird, Edinburgh 100 %

911 (996) Turbo Coupé 2002 420 bhp 4-WD Automatic Rain
forest
green
metallic 47,000 m 11/01 £61,995 UK-Liverpool 100 %

911 (996) Turbo Coupé 2001 420 bhp 4-WD Manual Zanzibar
red 23,500 m 03/01 £63,995 UK-Liverpool 100 %

Though granted some of the above are auto, depends what you want

The 4S is a very great car, though the turbo is the boy at school who excelled at sports, pulled all the girls, and did his homework and liked it.

Hope that helps

I originally planned to buy a newish C4S next year but have decided for very similar money I could get myself into a Turbo so that's what I'll be going for.

I testdrove a 996 Turbo a few weeks ago, the price was £65k, after the drive I stuck to my guns and asked £4k off the price - he thought I was taking the piss so I replied by saying 'bye bye...no deal then'. The sales guy phoned me back less than 2 weeks later offering the same car with £4k off. Told him 3 weeks ago £4k off but now if I was in the market for the same car I would want even more money off as 996 Turbos values are bound to take a battering with the introduction of 997 Turbo. I'm gonna hang on until next summer as they'll be more cars about.

BMW dealer freind has just traded an 03 low mileage C4S for £53k to the OPC network , that tells you that £55k private is on the cards.
If it was me I'd either go for an older 02 car with more depreciation out of it (the 997 WILL affect values)or as the onther guys have said spend a little more than £60k for an 01 996TT.
