Berny probably better on the Impact bumpers site mate.
Not an expert on the C3 other than the SC replaced it in 78, had more torque than the C3 albeit the BHP was reduced to 180BHP initially, all emission led for the US market place.
Very rare car with around 200BHP and like all the IB cars very collectable.

I'd suggest you have a look on Impact Bumpers: www.impactbumpers.com
Carrera 3.0 can be found in the 'Early Carrera' section!

I had one for 8 years or so, very similiar to an SC really, not as much torque but liked plenty of revs, no brake servo!
Remember going to a Porsche do at Althorp House and not seeing another.
Mine had sports seats (no cost option) plus chrome window surrounds, 77 chrome was standard and black an option, in 78 it changed to the other way round hence why you see a mix on that age of cars.
More anorak stuff, the center vents on the dash were introduced in 77. Friend of mine had a 76 without them, there was also a change to the 915 gearbox.

I know a fair bit about the Carrera 3.0 having been the custodian of a 77' 3.0 Targa Sport since early 2000.
They're a bit of a hog around town due to the cammy engine but it's easily my favourite of all the cars i have access to for a country drive.
Ours has covered 38k miles since new and still feels fresh on the interior. It did have the usual oil leaks however so I had the engine and box sent away to Sport and Classic for a full rebuild of both. All is back together and running beautifully. Having been without the car for 5 months or so last year I was quickly reminded of just how good it is when I went on some longer runs to bed the engine in.
Compared with a modern car the brakes are an issue. There isn't the initial feel there that you would expect from brakes but once up to temp I feel they're pretty responsive.
I find the gearshift a little on the long side for my liking but have strived to keep the car original so haven't done anything about it but there is a firm specialising in short shifts for these and I believe they're very good, whilst retaining the same OE look. I may still go with one but will get a good few miles on it first this year.
Be aware of the tyres you have on the car too. Mine looked fine tread-wise but a drive in the wet demonstrated that they were actually closer to firewood than ruubber! We did a bit of hunting and managed to source some nice Pirelli P8's which i believe were OE on the 3.0.
If you feel you must have some music in the car (the engine is sufficient for me!) then I know a chap who does the conversion for the head unit to accept iPod and even offer bluetooth for phone. It's not even that expensive. Let me know if you want details.
The red car you've bought looks very nice. I hope you have some excellent times with it!!

cheers JB off to sunny Wales after collection for a coupe of days so looking forward to getting to know the car better. As far as I am concerned the car is pretty ship shape.
The shape of the car is beautiful and I am looking forward to the few days up in the Welsh hills.
Interesting comments on the oil leaks, is this common?

£40K is that what they are worth these days !!
I owned one for 17 years and raced it in the Porsche Club championship for 13 of those winning the championship in 2004 and the class several times. It was road legal the entire time.
Fabulous car and pretty bullet proof. In all that time racing it the engine was only rebuilt once. Jaz ran the car for me for 6 years and Steve really knows how to set it up.
I has bilstein suspension and standard brakes (with cooling) and I never had any problems with it.
Definitely a particular technique to drive it fast but once you've master it it's absolutely fantastic.
Perfectly usable everyday although I suspect now they are worth quite a bit you won't want to.
I sold mine in 2007 for £13k to a guy in Italy who now rallies it..... I paid £12,500 for it in 1990 so made a whole £500 profit! I knew I should have kept it.
I do have a few interior parts knocking about as it all got stripped out for racing.
Oh yeah, the engine on the Jaz car, doesn't have the correct cooling fan, needs to be a 5 blade one if you want originality. Also needs to have working front oil cooler. If it's a serpentine one I'd recommend changing it to a Carrera 3.2 type.

I think my oil leaks comment was slightly unfair. They don't all leak from new and my freshly rebuild one doesn't but with time the gaskets do seem allow a little weeping. I think it is quite common for a 'mist' to appear on the gasket between the two engine halves but as long as it's not actively dripping it'll be fine. The shape of the car is beautiful and I am looking forward to the few days up in the Welsh hills.

what parts do you still have? May be of interest once I have got to know the car. send me a PM if you want to part with any of themI owned one for 17 years and raced it in the Porsche Club championship for 13 of those winning the championship in 2004 and the class several times.
