Maintenance plan and engine re-builds?

As my car moves towards the end of it's dealer warranty, I'm looking at cover going forwards.

My local indy operates a maintenance plan that reads (and charges) identically to Hartech's (who are sadly simply too far from home for me to use).

Given I run a 997.1, I've always got one eye on a potential re-build at some stage and wondered, assuming I'm on a maintenance plan, what level of cover that would actually give me if the worst happened?

Given these plans only cover labour costs, what is are the associated parts costs likely to be of a full blown rebuild?

I realise no two cases are the same, but interested in experience/views? I guess I'm assuming that a maintenance plan will act as 'insurance' against a required re-build but keen to know if I'm kidding myself.

I don't know whose plan you're looking at but I would expect in the plan exclusions (which will likely include things like water ingress and corrosion issues) that it lists any out-sourced items.

Hartech can do far more in-house on these engines than pretty much anywhere else, so I think in the event of an engine rebuild their plan would work out much better value - certainly well worth the £100-£200 to transport it to them for its annual service in order to stay covered.

Looking at JMG Porsche in Dorset and it does list 'outsourced work' as an exclusion.

But I'm increasingly inclined to agree that Hartech might be worth the pain
