Diary of a new Carrera 3.0 owner

Well it is the night before and planes, trains and automobiles awaits. I have an early start tomorrow and a plane flight followed by trains and then bliss again. A beautiful Carrera 3.0 awaits. My favourite colour Porsche Red!! I am looking forward to starting the engine and just getting to know the car. It is knocking on midnight and I have a 5:30 start. I have trawled almost every conceivable board on Carrera 3.0s and am pretty well hooked. I had not ventured into the air cooled world previously, but after my experience with a GT3 (which I still have and treasure) and a GT2 (which did not suit and is no longer with me) I wanted another NA car. I had pondered over a supersport in guards red and came across the current Carrera 3.0 which I have fallen for. My knowledge of air cooled cars was limited and after a little bit of research you discover how special these little cars are. The car is only a few years younger than me but is in far better condition. Tomorrow is going to be a fun day...just need to get to sleep to wake up sooner.....
enjoyCheers g. The history file is something else and he car has worn the years far better than I. I have just finished a 300 mile trip in the car and it is something else. To think that was around 1976 is amazing. My first impressions of the car is how comfy and holding the standard seats are. You naturally sit low in the car, but you sit uncharateristicly close to the wheel as the gear shift is exceptionally long. Porsche design is brilliant. All the little things are brilliant. My current nerd out is the heater system, it is just over enginerred for the time. A dictaphone on the stero..brilliant!
The important bit, The power it is quite amazing I was surprised. The speed picks up very quickly and the car rides realy well at high speeds. It is interesting comparing it to the GT3 they are comparable. Obviously the GT3 is quicker but I think it is the feel and the delivery. They both transmit amazing info through. I am one very pleased puppy. I have a couple of days ahead driving tuition so hopefully I get a better understanding of the car over that time.
I had never come across the Carrera 3.0 prior to being informed of this car but currently pleased I am the new owner.
One thing I would suggest is like and follow Jaz Facebook page and keep an eye on any car Steve puts up for sale if you are looking for a good air cooled car. Lucky to have him looking after my cars!

After a few days up and down some awesome roads in a 38 year old car. And what a car I remain staggered about how amazing the car performed. On the last day I drove close on 12 hours through all weather conditions and the car never missed a beat. My favourite colour and a beautiful car and scenery. A few taster pics

Car is looking lovely. Really great to hear you're enjoying it. Your post actually got me excited about getting ours out again after winter so I took it out on Sunday. It was fantastic to drive it again. I forget how much enjoyment I get from driving it. In a snow storm
Something I notice about yours however is its ride height? Is it on altered suspension? Mine seems to have cavernous arch gaps (on the front certainly) while yours is decidedly more GT3-esque.
JB, if I am honest I am not certain. Steve at Jaz set the car up for me.
The ride was excellent very comfortable cruising on the motorway but also responsive when running down the dips and peaks of the B roads at pace.
Loved the way the car handles and it taught me a lot about my driving style. You can get away with a lot less in the car and need to be much more precise. The driver involvement needs to be so much more than modern cars. The feel up through the steering wheel and through the car was excellent. It is my first time with an air cooled car and I am still getting to know it but as a second car to the GT3 it sits perfectly.
It is difficult to explain from my limited knowledge, but on the GT3 you can feel the front lift, back hunker down etc.. On the Carrera 3.0 you get all that but you feel it wheel by wheel. A brilliant driving experience all round!!
Crimp the GT2 was a beautiful car but not for me and has been passed on. If they want to come up on here I'll leave that with them.

Wheels were 7 and 8 by 15 and its got Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, 205 on the front and 225 on the back.
In terms of handling, obviously the car had a race set up but on the road it was really surefooted and on a long sweeping motorway slip road once you'd transferred the weight over the rear wheels you could really get on the power. I also had a 2004 GT3 and I always thought the handling very way ward, forever pitching from front to rear. It wouldn't even track straight on the motorway. I tried sorting it out a JZ and JAZ with different set ups but never got it sorted.
The 3.0 is very susceptible to steering alignment I found, unless it was spot on in the straight ahead it made the rear want to wander.

I am getting spacers on the rear. Did you use the sport cups on the road? Wheels were 7 and 8 by 15 and its got Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, 205 on the front and 225 on the back.
