40k budget, descisions, descisions.

Hi all,

Been a lurker for ages, love the site.

I have 40k to spend on a porsche, I'm after an air cooled, preferably something that will appreciate in value, gotta be red, and ideally with a huge fin on the back.

I quite like this, what's wrong with it?

Without an inspection, nobody knows whats wrong with it.

If its a good car, its a relatively safe place to put your money.

964 C2
3.2 coupe / super sport

If you just want an investment, then go manual and coupe. LHD opens up other countries interest when you come to sell.

Personally I'd find a nice 964 2wd manual. The last air cooled car that looks like the original from every angle.

IMO stay away from the supersport. Plenty of dosh and little return for your money in the dynamics stakes.

964/993 is a far better bet, personally though I prefer the 993. Great car that has the fhandling of the modern Porsche but the quirkiness of the aircooled cars.

I had a 993 NB amd a 1989 option 491 at the same time.

The older car's dynamics are much better than you would expect, because the Supersport comes with the full Turbo setup including the Bilsteins. I didn't take it beyond the limit however

OP if you are looking for a 'pootling around' car, then look at some Supersports, but watch out for corrosion as I've seen some shockers with nice paint on the top.

Mine had sat for most of it's low-mileage life in a warehouse (owner lived/worked abroad and kept it at his dad's place of business) and it had still needed a new sill/kidney bowl.

Suggest you focus on the 2wd, manual, coupe.

If it's got to be red both the 3.2 Carrera or 964 models should offer opportunities as red was popular. I'd also go for black leather interior (ideally piped red) over a cream interior as it wears better.

- Late 3.2 Carrera Sport Coupe 1987-89, manual with g50 gearbox.
- Late 964 Carrera 2 Coupe, 1989-94 manual

Both are well within your budget and would allow some funds to bring it up to top.

I was looking at a 3.2 Supersport but went for the below Carrera 3.0.



I would not dismiss earlier cars. The 3.2 Supersport is quite a bit heavier and less responsive engine. The looks are great but at your price range you should be able to pick up a good earlier car than the Supersport. There will be quite a difference in power (obviously) compared to your tt but the driving feel should make up for it.
