911 GTS, 3 years old and should I extend the warranty?

Had my 997 GTS from new and completed 27K trouble free miles, had the rear discs replaced at 20k due to corrosion but other than that it has never missed a beat. So, its now due its first MOT and I am thinking of having a few cosmetic tweaks done but should I also shell out the £3K for the extended warranty? I have never tracked the car and intend on keeping it long term (even if the opportunity arises to get a 991 I may still keep the GTS).

If it is to be a long term keeper I would say not - they have been pretty resilient and you are not overly likely to recoup the warranty cost. For short term piece of mind it might be worthwhile, but as a general rule of thumb the longer you plan to keep it, the more it makes sense to put the money in the bank rather than extending the warranty.

Had my GTS PDK coupe 2wd 30 months now and like yours, never missed a beat although only done 12k miles. No warranty work needed.

Out of all 911s owned, GTS is my favourite....will try and keep it hopefully when new GT3 arrives....

Really all the bits which do wear are not covered.

So you are buying a engine and gearbox warranty.
And I have not heard of any GTS units going bad.

Includes VAT, but not the mandatory £180+VAT 111 point check (though OPCs have been known to waive the cost of that for some customers)

My answer to your question would be no. It's been reliable thus far, what do you think will change? You can always renew it again in the future if circumstances change.

Yes.

Yes but you'll need a major service doing at the OPC.

I too have had a GTS PDK from new , car was bought in March 2011. Had a bit of bad luck re reliability. The PDK box stopped working on the way to work , couldn't select a gear , turned out to be a broken valve. That was in the first year. Last summer while on a road trip in France the drive belt snapped. Having the warranty really helped as a porsche assistance arrived within 45 mins, car was taken to porsche Montpellier and repaired over the weekend . Belt snapped due to a small gravel getting between the belt and the pulley.
I still think the car is fantastic , will be renewing my warranty!,
