Hi there,

My Mum is currently looking for a Boxter.
I dont know much about them so was wondering what to look for, Obviuosly the normal stuff like good service History etc

But what else is worth looking at checking, I hear the rear screen may be prone to cracking if left up for long periods and putting the hood down? is true, any other pointers

one we are thinking of looking at is :

1998 PORSCHE BOXSTER 2.5 LUX,
R reg. Lapis blue black leather, 44k, fPsh, cruise control, air-con, climate, CD, like new £16,995 .

What difference is the LUX??

TIA

Lux pack is partial leather (Most of the important stuff) The climate control, the wind deflector which includes a couple of storage bins and I think 17" wheels.

Sounds like a bargain to me!

Hi BB

It does sound like a bargain. I assume you won't be buying this from an official porsche d(st)ealership. Therefore I'd suggested:
1) an inspection - you can take to a porsche garage or an independent porsche specialist may come out to you-should be less than £200 (which is less than RAC & Rac are really, really crap! so avoid them).

Once inspection done, get HPI check (probably £30-40 quid, look in yellow pages)
inspection should highlight any potential problems

Usual faults are RMS (rear main seal can leak oil & oil can go onto clutch, can cost £800 to replace a £17.00 seal !!)Rear screen can crack - you'll see this though, and tyres (£500 set)

good luck!

that seems a very good price

screens rarely crack unles you try to lower the roof when it is very cold - but don't worry as the plastic can be replaced for £200-300
