Are Rattles Covered Under the Porsche Used Car Warranty?

I have a rather annoying rattle coming from the passenger dash / glovebox / A Pillar area of my Cayman and I've pretty much wasted a whole Bank Holiday trying to work out where it's coming from. The noise only occurs over rough services and seems particularly problematic at higher speeds. While I'm reluctant to let a dealer start to strip the dashboard down it needs sorting as rattles drive me mental!
Will the dealer look at it for me or will it be a case of 'they all do that sir'.? Rather ominously my warranty documents do state that 'acoustic or visual deterioration that does not affect functionality is not covered'.
I'll be calling the dealer later but would be interested to hear what response you think I'll get (or you've had previously). The car will have to go back to my local OPC rather than the supplying dealer.

I for one am interested in what the OPC say. I have an annoying squeak (rubber on something?) coming from what I suspect is the roof mechanism behind the drivers rear door when the roof is down and the road anything less than flat.

You can normally get a tech to come out with you to help diagnose a noise but they may not do this type of diagnostic work gratis as it takes up time.
Even then, they are not infallible - I once had a tech diagnose worn drive shafts on a test drive (after having initially suspected wheel bearings) but in the end, they conceded that it was just my noisy 17" Bridgestone SO-2s (which are N-rated but appear to generate noise from new when fitted to 986s).
Have you had had a chance to ask a passenger to listen from that side as it's not always obvious to work out precisely where noises are coming from... I had a curious rattle recently that I first assumed was a something that might have come loose from from inside the passenger door, then I assumed it was a something rattling around in the engine compartment on top of the undertray, but I eventually found a "Speed Yellow" Peanut M&M that had made it down to the uncarpeted area under the passenger seat!

For the extended warranty "noises" are exempted in the terms and conditions - this is in Germany but I would think its the same for the uk. I know as Porsche tried to wiggle themselves out of replacing the air suspension on our cayenne (loud rattle). They did cover it eventually though after some convincing by the dealer.
Car is four years old and has done 15,500 miles. As is always the case though, took the car out for a drive at lunchtime and the rattle seems a lot less prominent. I'm even now starting to doubt whether or not it actually is coming from where I originally thought it was. Might need to see if I can live with it / wait to see if it gets on any worse. Once you've heard a rattle though, very difficult to concentrate on anything else...
Usually if the warranty is bumper to bumper which is the case for a Porsche warranty then it will be covered. My 991 made all sorts of HORRIBLE creaks and rattled more than my Alfa 147 Diesel used to.. i brought it back numerous times and the bulk of it were indeed removed.. the only one they couldn't sort out was a loud CRACK coming from the rear window on big potholes.. was actually scary. Bear in mind mine was even a PDCC car.. supposedly silky ride.
In order I think there was some related to wipers motors not being fitted properly (dashboard rattle), passenger seatbelt trim being loose, dashboard rattles of different kinds.. even one coming from the back seats ! I tell you my 997.1 was way better than that and my M3 V8 miles ahead. I think my car had been assembled on a Friday afternoon.
So in short yes they will have a go at it but you NEED to go on a drive with the tech and get him to notice and recognize the fault. Otherwise if you just leave them the car forget it..

They fixed a really annoying rear 3/4 window rattle, and the most recent was a noise like rustling leaves at speed, very loud, technician had no problem hearing it. They thought it could be the spoiler (always started at 70 mph) but it turned out to be a load of leaves in the near side wheel arch, somehow got lodged in there.
Took two trips to sort that, didn't charge me a thing.
That said, my OPC have fixed a few gratis. It's worth asking.

I have had rattles sorted out under warranty in Germany. In fact the car is being looked at this coming Thursday for a couple of new ones. All has been covered by the extended warranty and I expect the same this time too.Thanks for all the responses - an interesting mix.

This is a really easy fix and well worth trying if you've got some noise from that area. The dash comes apart very easily and there are plenty of easy to follow instructions on the net. All I'm now left with is an annoying buzz from somewhere which is only audible with the stereo off. Could be the door card, A Pillar, dash - who knows.
When I bought the car I actually made a conscious decision not to listen out for rattles etc. The only reason I've picked up on these latest ones is due to a shopping trip during which the other half insisted I turn Planet Rock off so we could 'chat'. At this point I noticed my metal tax disc holder was making an annoying noise. Got that fixed but then picked up on these latest noises which I suspect have actually been there since I bought the car.
Think I'll turn the stereo back up for now and try and ignore them. If they get any worse or my OCD wins the battle I'll give the dealer a call and see what they say.
