Received one this morning timed at 3.00 am ish.

Nearly 20% below the asking price , I replied politely suggesting due to the time of the email he might be under the influence of drink and he might want to re consider his offer.

Just had his final offer of £0

What planet do these type of fools live on ?

My mistake for replying I suppose.

Least emails are less intrusive than those bloody texts.....sold a c2s for circa £40k, 5 years ago...got texts/ emails with offers from £25k ++

CASH and supposedly I was lucky to get that .......

There is really no point in getting wound up by these chancers. Just ignore or very politely decline.

Dont forget that some could be genuine buyers that are just trying a first low ball stab.

Better to say something like;

Many thanks for your interest and fair play to you for trying to negotiate hard. However, I am sure that you know that it will not be accepted.

If your position changes and you can get near to my fair asking price, then by all means, come back to me.

As infuriating and irritating as they are in equal measure, they're still far less of a ball ache than the guys that either arrange a time to come and view and simply don't turn up, or those that just appear to want to either drive or be driven fast with seemingly no intention of buying
Selling an interesting car privately is a nightmare and a few instances have ended in me just px'ing or WBAC'ing for a low but stress fee value
I feel your pain OP

I had a car up at £55k and a dealer rang up and offered me £43K whilst having an older, higher mileaage model on their forecourt at £54k
£12k mark up seemed a tad excessive!!

Cars sell when the price works out for both. Yes, there are always time wasters out there, and that's part of selling. And an unseen offer made on a car would never come over as genuine to me.

I've spent a number of weeks now looking into Gen 1 997 C2S cars and have seen a couple of Gen 2 C2S coming close to budget also. With asking prices of the gen 2 just over my budget, I don't see any harm in asking if they can move to my budget. If they don't then that's fine. I can only ask...

From a buyers perspective, what's frustrating is that offers I have made are always higher than the likes of WBAC and other sites, but sellers see it as too low compared to their asking price. "Porsche have the same car for £xx,xxx so mine is a bargain". Porsche bring 2 year warranty and an inspection prior to sale in their price, which is also open to some negotiating.

I have now seen a couple of the cars I have been in touch about cropping up for sale at garages not much higher than the private sale asking price, which makes me think sellers eventually take an offer from a dealer which I assume would potentially have been below the price I spoke of.

Must admit I often send emails at silly o'clock.

It's usually due to having a quiet night shift and being able to sit browsing the classifieds!
