991 Alloy Repair - failed after 8months

Bloody OPC's… just got car back for storage and noticed an alloy repair done has oxidised, lovely nice white patch where repair was done, the OPC where I bought the car and where repair was done as part of the sale are pushing back saying they only cover the repair for 6months !


Before I boil my piss - whats the view on this ?

They are out of line - if an OPC repairs a wheel the repair should be covered indefinitely in my view, certainly for a lot longer than 6 months. Phone back and kick off.

Alloys aren't normally covered even by GB IMO though I would push hard for a goodwill gesture. However, they tend to use smart repairs which are pretty poor and do not stand the test of time. After two OPC smart repairs flaking away I ended up using Lepsons to redo the wheels properly - it's the best way to go.

That siad, after such a short time I would expect the OPC to sort this out FOC - expect them to use the same people though

If an official body shop did it then it should be covered by a lifetime guarantee. If they got some chap to do it on the cheap then maybe you could ask them why.

I have seen these smart repairs being done in a tent in an OPC car park and you are lucky it lasted that long. Do yourself a favour and don't let the OPC do it again - even for free - Lepsons etc all charge around £80 all in and you won't have any trouble afterwards.

I've had an OPC refurb properly all four wheels on a Cayenne I bought months after taking delivery - wasn't even new, 6 months old
This was Silverstone OPC btw

+1. In the grand scheme of things, having all four wheels refurbed by Lepsons or similar isn't expensive. I can also confirm from 1st-hand experience that the finish (on Carrera Sport and Turbo II wheels in my case) is far better and more durable than the original factory offering.

^ Agreed, i'd start with this. I've had repairs lasting 5 years now and still imperceptible to the other wheels. Sad to say but they've obviously done a cheap job and would firmly bat this back into their court.

I had a poor experience with my Lepsons refurb, the alloy finish started cracking like eggshells after it has been scuffed.
