Porsche silverstone drving experience

Im thinking of booking the 911 driving course. which is 90min long driving experience using their car.

has anyone here done it?

im tryig to gauge how much you can push the car? point being... is this going to give you the experience to push your own 911? is it the sort of course you would get if taking your own car? aim being learn on their car without shredding my own car!

also the handling circuit is described as a country road - any comments on the quality of the corners etc?

I had experience in TTS as GT3 on recall. I spent 60 min on handling circuit, low grip and kick plate didn't do much for me. Wish I'd chosen standard S model as TTS just too capable for circuit. It's not a bad layout to be honest. Facilities are great, they look after you. I didn't pay as GT3 depositor, not sure I would rush back unless GT3 ready!,

BTW Palmer Sport at abedford far better, but more money IMO

Well worth it if you are new to the marque and want to learn how to drive it properly on the public road. A morning well spent.....

And a good breakfast and a cracking lunch..............

and I have to travel 250 miles to do it with an overnight.

Still worth it.

I did the complementary Porsche Power Of Four event there today, the set up, the organisation and the staff were absolutely brilliant. I will definitely book in for my experience days there off the back of today, in addition to this me and my team of three others won the event and picked a nice prize of VIP hospitality at the Porsche suite at this years British F1 in July!

How much is it to do the course?

There are better courses out there if you want to learn about pushing your car, i've done their experience twice it is more geared up towards those who haven't done this type of thing before.

I did it after buying mine as I wanted to explore the limits of the car. I really enjoyed it and learnt some stuff of the, excellent, instructor too. It's a good day out and wasn't ridiculously expensive I dont think.

You can push the cars to the limit too.

I went on a Cayman experience for free too. Full of people who were pottering around and I was still encouraged to push to the limit.

I did this course in my own car and I was given free reign to push to the limit, though others on track at the same time seemed not to be doing.
Instructor was very good.
Don't see how the handling circuit can be described as being like a country road though; at least, not an English one. Know many country roads with smooth tarmac and good sight lines? The only road I've ever been on which compares is the Scotsburgring.

Just to add, I felt it was a good mix of corners, including, from memory, a long(ish) sweeper, a tight corner at the end of a straight and a tight left-right combo.

I went last month and drove a Cayman. Lot of fun, really enjoyed it. I had a very educated instructor (and a nice lunch as others mentioned). It's aimed at handling and cornering rather than out and out speed, I didn't need to get out of 3rd gear. As an educational experience I found the skid and ice hill parts also very well done. Driving through with various sport modes and traction control settings on/off demonstrated how much difference they do make. The facility is part way through an expansion which I think they said they were looking to open in July. From what I could see of the construction site it looked like they were going to nearly double the size of the facility.

I've been 3 times, once when I got my boxster. Gave me confidence to start finding where the limits are and how the traction control works etc. Once on an RS day (great and consequently I now have an RS) but I went on a "Taste the Range" day and whilst it was impeccably organised it very much felt like a selling push most of the time. If you wait a bit they are making the handling circuit (probably the best bit) considerably bigger so probably worth waiting for if you are considering.

I did a limit handling day with the RS recently at Bruntingthorpe and I think if you are looking at how your car handles at fast speeds or even relatively fast speeds this is a much better idea. All of the sideways action at Silverstone with Porsche is 25mph or under which feels great but in no way prepares you for a car starting to step out at 70mph+

When i did mine indeed it felt like the handling circuit was way too small. And indeed it's at silverstone but could be anywhere else as 95pct of the activities do not even touch the Tarmac of the official track.

Technical bits and slow speed sideways action I enjoyed.
