First impressions of our new Porsche Macan

Picked ours up this afternoon from Reading.It is the first Porsche we have ever bought.
Having owned a couple of Q5 3.0 tdi S-lines the driving characteristics are very,very similar.Ride is quite firm on the 21 inch alloys but they do make it look much better.Also got the red calipers as an extra and they look great.I have not driven the car hard but handling is better than the Q5.Interior is very nice but there is less room in the rear.Buttons seem to have a similar feel.
Do think the Panoramic roof is essential, we had to delete this option to achieve an April delivery but my advice is to get it,makes the interior feel much more roomy. Headroom is minimally affected.I was able to compare a car with the panoramic option that was next to ours in the showroow.
Boot slightly smaller but still useable. Matt black window trim option was fine as there are issues with the black chrome.
Would I get another? Probably not, but as the residuals will be brilliant,we should end up losing less than if we drove a Ford Ka around for a year, we will stick with it for a year or so.
Ps this is just my first impressions after a couple of hours ownership.
Must say OPC Reading and our salesman Dave Churchill have been brilliant and I would return to them in a flash.

That is really good news as that confirms the UK is now out of recession. Just need to see this good news in my pocket. Why does a Porsche badged Audi command such a waiting list. I just don't get it I was in OPC Swindon week before last waiting to pick up my 911, and the staff were gushing on about the Macan in the showroom.
I just don't understand it, I was amazed they thought I would be interested in it.
IMO it's bland and unfortunately very euro box, .It could have been any make to me.

Sorry left a couple of things out in my original post.
It is the diesel,it is for my wife, I do drive an Aston Martin and would not leave that brand for anything.(at the moment anyway even for a 911 :0)
My statement below is what I believe and not my Wife`s as she loves it.I just like it.
The Macan will be to Porsche what the Evoque is to Range Rover. A school run car for the mums and predominently driven by women.
I don`t mean to come across as sexist but I do change cars on a yearly basis.
They will want it as it is a far more manageable SUV than its larger brother but still have the advantages and looks of an SUV. This is all feedback from my wife who I love, but is a typical woman SUV driver...awful lane procedure, kerbs it going round corners,colour more important than performance and handling etc :0)
This purchase was done predominantly as a way to get relatively cheap first time Porsche motoring for the first year, as I did when the X5 and Q5`s first arrived on the scene( managed a £6k discount on a Q5 when there was an 10 month waiting list)
To those that do not understand the residuals of this car and I have seen a fair few comments of "its a Porsche it will lose £1000`s",the diesel car has a 14 month plus waiting list and the Turbo an 18 month waiting one. This will mean there are fewer around and until the numbers on the second hand market increase the demand will outstrip the supply.This means depreciation will be minimal and in the grand scheme of things, what you lose come resale time is the largest cost of car ownership.Timing is of the essence by the way when it comes to minimising resale loss.(trying not to be condescending but I am pretty up on these things)
Porsche will really take a large market percentage with this car as it is in the mid size price range of SUV`s and lets face it you have a Porsche badge for around £53k...you do not need to spend anymore I have got a great spec car with everything you would need...21inch wheels were expensive but essential,red calipers painted by Porsche the dogs dangly`s imho

this :-) as for waiting lists, I am never sure about that, when the caymans came out it was on a waiting list, but my dealer said I could have on in 2 months if I wanted.
seems crazy to limit the supply of these cars if people want them, the turbo is daft with only a handful of cars to each dealer.
53k imo is a lot of money but as you say you should be able to get most of that back in the 1st 12 months. most cars will loose 10k on a 50k car.
Do women really want a Porsche ? imo most still want a TT if they don't have kids or a evoke.
So is the market still men. but men who are buying them for women lol

Around here about half of 911s are driven by women,usually 50plus ,and most boxsters and caymans,in fact I would say the panamera is the only Porsche driven mostly by men ,and that's bevause woman would drive something as ugly as a panamera.this :-) as for waiting lists, I am never sure about that, when the caymans came out it was on a waiting list, but my dealer said I could have on in 2 months if I wanted.

Can you add a bit more to this statement? What makes the brand so good, and stops you being tempted by the sportier side of Porsche?I have thought a Vantage would look good on my driveway for some time - and in fact, would probably be an ideal replacement for my 996 turbo. But my view of AM is of questionable reliability with expensive maintenance - am I wrong?
