my 968 cab had a new clutch fitted prior to my taking delivery. its now starting to bed in after 500 miles but ive noticed that when I am stationary and preparing to move off, as I dip the clutch and move the gear lever into first, I sometimes (not always) get a palpable thump through the bottom of my seat, seeming to come from directly beneath me

because I'm still getting used to the different feel - the clutch travel is much much further than my last car - I sometimes wonder if I dont get the clutch dipped far enough before changing gear, could this be the cause?

can anyone think what else this might be, and its significance if any

Quite strange...

Have you rung/taken it back to the people who did the clutch?

Otherwise give someone like Ray Northway a call (google northway porsche), as he can be very helpful over the phone for technical stuff.

It sounds as if the clutch might be dragging a bit or, as you suggest, you might not be pushing the pedal down far enough.
