993 Selling Prices - What Happened??!!
Discussion
I've had a couple of 993 Targas since 2009 - I sold my last one this time last year.
I've missed driving and owning a 993 so have recently started to look again - I started to look at C4S, then C2S and then the Targa.
Prices seems to have gone nuts over the last 12 months - the car I sold would now command around £6k more than I sold it for and C4Ss seem to be changing hands around the £45k mark! (I remember looking at a 100k mile C4S in late 2011 for £26k!).
What's happened to the prices of 993s over the past 12 months? Why have they shot up in value so much? (I know they're hand-built, I know they're the last of the air-cooled and I know they were produced in much smaller numbers than the 996 and 997...).

Plenty on this elsewhere for you to catch up on!! I've missed driving and owning a 993 so have recently started to look again - I started to look at C4S, then C2S and then the Targa.

I think the value of everything 'desirable' has gone upwards when you look at £120k 997.2 RS', £100k 996 GT3RS', £60k 996 gen 1 gt3's etc etc etc
....and they are selling too - it's not a case of someone advertising a car at top whack and getting nowhere - these things are selling like hot cakes

I think there are a number of factors at play:
- time of year - spring has sprung and wallets have opened with the flower blooms;
- economic recovery - there is a real feeling of upturn down south
- continued backlash against the problems encountered with the 996/ 997 engines/ drive trains which caused serious damage to the water cooled part of the brand
- I suspect the new 991 has also added a bit of fuel to the pyre - electronics perform amazing technical feats however, there may be something to the realisation that we don't/ can't drive flat out on the public highway and there may be more enjoyment to be had from cars exuding so much character from every 'pore'
- size - they do look wonderfully compact compared with subsequent generations
- build quality - I hold a notion that these cars, despite their age, were built to a higher engineering standard than the 996 which was partly a result of consultation with Honda to introduce mass production techniques
- a bit of the last chance to step back in technological time
- demand and (relative lack of) supply.

This will all change once interest rates are back to 5%..
I will bet you a million pounds that it won't.What will happen is that supply will reduce as cars get written off and exported to the new money in the BRIC countries.
And demand will continue to increase.
