Underwhelmed – Macan Test Drive

I drove the Petrol S and Diesel S back to back this morning and came away feeling underwhelmed. I was hoping for a single car that would offer a realistic compromise between my 981 BS and BMW F30 330 M Sport. Although the Macan is undoubtedly a nicely package car it didn’t really excite at all. The petrol had a nice fruity sound on start-up but that was lost once on the move.
Does anyone know of a dealer that is running a Turbo as a demonstrator? Or has anyone driven the S back to back with a turbo? And if so does it offer significant jump up in performance and involvement to the S? I suspect not!
Also does anyone know if they will be looking to release a sports exhaust for the Macan. The salesman suggested that he had driven such a car

The Macan is never going to be a sports car, but I was expecting a little more drama from a Porsche.

I am pretty sure they are going to be doing a PSE at some point.
The Macan is a sporty SUV, that's all.
For us its a town car with a good driving position etc.
For my tastes a weekend car is still required - but then again I like fast cars!

I get the impression that a lot of these will just be family cars and given how many the sold before the launch I wonder if a lot are going on to fleets.

I think you are probably right. I was quoted Q1 2016 for delivery!

you could always fit a full welded cage and remove all the sound deadening ?

Jeez! That's quite some mark up (80k). The Turbo is pretty well specified. My spec came in at 67k. Some one has really got to want to jump the queue to pay that sort of money!

I thought that the petrol `S` was a nicely packaged car for use as a daily driver!

PSE would be an option for me

A mate of mine has a PSE on his Cayenne S Diesel and it sounds awesome, in fact for an SUV it's an awesome machine!

Not meant to be an exciting drive, maybe best in class but still just a small 4X4. Buy it as a high quality practical car.
