996 c4s door won't open.

Went to unlock drivers door this evening and door won't open. The key fob unlocks the car and drivers window drops, but the door will not unlatch. I can get in from passenger side and open drivers door from the inside. Car is due in for mot tomorrow morning, not a good start. Any ideas? Is it an easy fix? Thanks in advance for any help.
Mechanical. Most likely, metal rod from exterior handle to lock has detached.
If you are lucky it's just come out of it's place in the plastic end, if less so, the plastic bits have broken and you need to source if available separately, hopefully.
The former is just as possible as the latter, it's hard to explain how the rod and the plastic bits are connected.
Door card needs removing (instructions available online, only thing that I did not need using was a tool for the pop clips at the edges, I just used my hands, preferable.
Window needs to be in the up position and don't forget, never put ignition on with airbag disconnected (and disconnect battery before removing airbag).
Worst bit for me was removing the "Airbag" medallion to access the screw behind it, as it is tricky to do so while avoiding damaging the door trim.
Decidedly fiddly, get a kneeler pad of sorts, but complication depends on what is wrong.
Oh and get yourself some butyl sealer to reattach the door membrane, yes, it can be removed very carefully (halfway to around where the airbag is is more than enough) without destroying it.
