Hi All,
Help. i am new owner of a 993, year 1995. in the last drive, i found that when i stopped at a traffic light and shift my automatic gear into neutral, i could not shift it into drive when its time to go. it was v embarrasing. only succeed in shifting again after i switched off the engine and restarted. two days ago, i started my car in the car park and the same thing happened, that is, could not shift the gear, had to turn off the engine and start again before i could shift into gear. it happened several times in the car park and i decided to keep it there til i send it to a workshop.
any ideas what's wrong with it ?

Thanks

rahim

I'm afraid I know nothing about the autobox, but have you checked the fluid level?

You mention putting the car into Neutral but do you mean Park?

I used to own a 993 Tiptronic and I recall having some problems with the button that you push down on the top of the gear shift which prevented moving the lever out of the Park position. It was caused by the gear knob itself sliding up on the gear stick. This movement was not really noticeable but it had the effect that when you pushed the button on the top of the gear knob you couldn't quite push it down far enough to disengage the locking mechanism to allow a shift of the gear stick.

Concur with the above it's probably that or linkage issue.

In addition , why do you shift into neutral at lights etc , usually just put into drive and hold at junctions and lights on the brake pedal , only drop it into park when stopping and parking up etc........
