Route Napoleon Hotels?

Taking in the route Nap in July anyone recommend a hotel?

This is at the very beginning of the interesting driving bits, so a good place for your first night, you should make it there in one day, rest, then enjoy the RN fresh the next day.

It will take you a day to do the RN from there, properly.

We ended the day at St Vallier du They, found a hotel there, rather modest but we'd have slept anywhere after THAT day.

Can send you the route on Google Earth if you email me, not sure if it is the exact one, I think mine is embellished by the Gorges du Verdon, a must - do.

We are leaving Derby first thing and blasting it down via the tunnel to Reims then on to Bourg en bresse , I was thinking of stopping on the Route Nap instead

There's a decent auberge about 3/4 way up Col Agnello on the French side. It has a lovelly terrace from where there are great views looking north. It's a treat on a Sunday to have coffee on the terrace and watch the bikers screaming to the top. You can't miss the auberge, there is a large car park at the front.

Having crossed over into Italy look out for the marmots on the roadside. There a parking area just down from the top on the Italian side. Stop for a while and the marmots will come out.

The road surface deteriorates going down into Italy.

If I remember the apex is at 3,100 metres. By the time you cross over the performance of your car will be down by about 30% due to altitude sickness.
