Hi chaps, as you know i recently took ownership of a rather nice 996 turbo with all the GT2 bits and bobs added DMS map DMS pipe 997 GT2 intercoolers uprated actuators etc running north of 500 BHP and showing around 1.2-1.3 bar
Out for a nice hoon on Sunday and noticed the bloody thing felt a bit flat and noted the boost at 0.8bar.

I'm thinking a stuck actuator or split hose albeit no difference in noise??

If the actuators are sticking can these be free'd off with a bit of brute force and ignorance or will they need replacing, if they are broken what boost levels would i be getting?
Finally if they are knackered would the standard Porsche versions be able to be set up to run the higher boost levels of 1.2-1.3bar?

The ones that are on the car now are Forge actuators.

Can also be this valve if boost is not full on.

Maybe an intercooler pipe that popped out ?

Can be all sorts, best bet is to get a boost leak-down test, and get the cracking point tested on the actuators to make sure they are equal. Ive sent the boost leak actually in the actuator housing itself, you'd never spot this if the system is not pressure tested...

MAF sensor I reckon..they often get found out when running higher boost.

Could be mate, problem is the ABS/PSM light can come on for so many bloody different reason!

The ones that are on the car now are Forge actuators.
Usually, if the pressurised inlet air was escaping through a split hose, you 'may' hear a whistle, but then its unlikely for you to get 0.8bar of boost with a split hose. Sadly, it could be any number of things causing low boost, pressure sensors, actuators etc. Get it booked into a good specialist who can do a leak down test, and by a process of elimination, get it sorted. Sorry I couldn't be of more help..!

Sounds like an electrical fault to me. It is unlikely that both actuators would fail simultaneously or seize. Easy to check if the actuators are seized as you should be able to push the actuators through its range of travel with your finger on the bottom ball joints. Be aware that the left side one requires more pressure to move, this is normal. Its a good idea to lubricate the top and lower ball joints on the actuators Fuchs Gleitmo WSP5040 grease spray is the correct stuff to use.part no 99.917.778.00

Had the call from the garage.
As anticipated the ABS/PSM light is the MAF sensor.
The boost loss is a seized left hand side actuator.

Here is the question though, my car has "Forge" actuators with uprated springs & Diaphragms.
Apparently the owner who had the work done in terms of the mods says they are designed in such a way to be adjusted/customised in other words you can changes the diaphragms and springs, as i am a layman on this kind of detail does this mean they can be stripped and parts replaced, or are these seperate to the actuators?

The garage just said it was seized and couldn't move it albeit hasn't tried to strip it down??

If i replaced the seized actuator with a standard Porsche one would it affect the cars boost which should be 1.2bar. Also would it be an issue having one Forge actuator and one Porsche one??

Bit bloody confused, basically want it to run like it did, boost at 1.2bar and pull like a feckin train!!

You should be able to strip it down, clean it, remove rust and if necessary replace springs (diaphragm? I thought these had pistons?)and have it running again.

Standard Porsche unit will activate at around 0.8bar so imagine you don't want that. Usually seized actuators result in overboost, so lower boost is unusual as it would imply it seized open - usually they seize from rusting shut when unused.

No sorry they are springs (uprated)
Is the Diaphragm in the divertor valve?
God knows i'm no expert i didn't do the mods just want it running correctly and boosting at 1.2bar as it was.

You need to find out what the tune was designed for. This is critical - I tuned different for 1 bar actuators against standard - if you put a 1 bar actuator instead of standard on a tune designed for standard, it will increase the boost. This may be a bad thing if the original tune has not catered for it.

Simple example, a standard spring ( e.g. Actuator ) can only hold the wastegate shut for so long. if you want to run say 1.2 bar, it won't be able to hold the wastegate shut on that spring if it is cracking a 0.8 bar. So in the program you have request say 1.5 bar through load values and this will give you the max boost of around 1.2 bar. now imagine you fit to the car 1 bar actuators - they will hold the wastegates closed and your boost will probably be close to 1.4 bar. if the tune does not cater for the 1.4 bar, then you have any issue e,g. Fueling, trims, etc.

Apparently it has Forge actuators with the second higher tension spring to run at 1bar to 1.4bar and was mapped to cater for this via DMS. So does that mean if one needs replacing due to it been seized i just go for a direct replacement in terms of the spring & actuator? My knowledge of Turbo's technically in this area is pretty slim......

Correct - you must get the same actuator, or you could buy a pair of 1 bar actuators and replace both.

Correct - you must get the same actuator, or you could buy a pair of 1 bar actuators and replace both.
