Second accelerator for a 996

my right leg is amputated above the knee, so need a left foot accelerator. I have a recently bought a lovely C4 with a great spec etc and 28,000 miles. done 1000 miles in a few weeks,loving it.
i have had a bolt on mechanical accelerator that I have taken from an other car; it works fine but prefer the electronic installation I have on my Cooper S.
My local (Sussex) specialists have no knowledge/or experience of this on a 996 - getting in to the wiring loom to blank out the RH accelerator when needed.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry to read about your leg. A good friend had his lower left leg amputated some years back. Not a pleasant experience for him I'm sure but he managed very well afterwards.

As in the USA so should it be in the UK I would think there are agencies or at least an agency that is available to assist amputees and mobility challenged with getting a car modified as you want, that is offer up some suggestions as to where in your area you could take the car. Doesn't the NHS there offer some assistance? Doesn't it have a Social Services department? How about the hospital where the surgery was performed? The office of the surgeon that performed the surgery?

If not then maybe getting in touch with a support group of amputees and mobility challenged people would provide you with some leads where to take the car?

You could also check out ads in various UK published Porsche car magazines: GT & Purely Porsche; 911 and Porsche; and Total 911; are 3 that come to mind for ads offering vehicle modification to accommodate those with special needs.

I'm no expert but I would have to believe that the regular accelerator pedal assembly could be moved to the left side unless you prefer a hand-throttle, provided this is still allowed. (My very limited knowledge of car mod's to accommodate those with disabilities partially comes from reading an autobiography of Douglas Bader and as a double amputee he required a hand throttle.)

Anyhow, whether moving the original pedal to the left side would require moving the brake pedal more to the right I can't say. But the shop you chose for this work should know of course.
