I'm putting a stereo into my 1985 Porsche Turbo and there's a small black wire running with the aerial cable. Can anyone tell me what this is and where it needs to be connected to?

Cheers

No knowledge from me, but at a guess, is it a power feed for an electric aerial?

Hi,

I have been searching Rennlist archives for the last couple of days.

One of the thgings I looked for was radion reception as Mine is absoultely useles.

May only apply to 964's may also be rubish as I am trying to remember what I have read not actualy done

I seem to recall one thread asking the same and One guy answered that there was a Signal booster(little black box) that the arial from the windscreen plugs into. and that this needed power. This black cable may be the power to teh booster?

Pesty, I think you're right there. I'm pretty sure I've seen one on E-BAY for sale. So I assume it just needs a live feed to that wire then, I suppose an ignition live will be adequate as you only need it when the stereo's switched on?

Ive copied a reply from the rennlist forum for you :-

"The wire coming from the screen goes into a booster, and IIRC the booster must be powered. If it isn't, then radio reception will be lousy. I've not got Adrian's book in front of me and I can't remember exactly but I had my dash top off (for other reasons) and it was really easy to follow the screen antenna into a small box that fed two wires, one was the aerial and one was the cable needing power. The wires were joined until the last 10cm or so into the radio. The cable that needs power is black, and anyone fitting an after-market radio might assume that it needed to be earthed rather than powered!

See if you can get the radio out of the dash, that might give you enough room to work behind and follow the aerial lead back to where it is joined to the booster cable, then check to see if the booster has power!"

That is correct, the black wire is the 12v feed for the aeriel amplifier which is hidden up behind the dashboard
