2004 Turbo Tip. New alternator 500 miles ago.
Now showing "generator not charging" with associated red battery light.
I'm suspecting a blown fuse but cannot find a location for battery charging circuit, can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

No fuses as such. The Alternator only has two connection points - Term 30. (+ve 12v from/to battery and starter) and Term 61. (Blue wire from charging light circuit control)

Start the car and check +ve voltage at the power point in the engine bay (anymore than 12.5volts is charging but should be around 13.5/13.8volts depending on the condition of the battery).

Could be a break in the blue wire - any rodents around where you live/keep the car - seen a few mouse related charging issues when they've nested behind the alternator and had a chew!!!....

Strange to have two charging faults in quick succession but 'anything can happen' I suppose?

When my alternator was on its way out, it took the battery with it. Had to replace the battery within a week of the alternator.

Deffo showing no charge, big gulp with the mice theory. Got a few cars in the same place so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the replies chaps.

First things first, get a multimeter & check the battery terminals with the engine off, it should be 12 volts or very close to, maybe 11.7 upwards due to interior lights, dash board being lit etc. With the car running, you should be seeing over 13 volts if the charging circuit is working, it might just be the indication circuit if it is producing charging voltage at the battery but still putting the light on.

Can't see the alternator failing after such a short time, so it might be the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator? Mine went 22 hrs after I bought my car, got the bit for £17.50 off eBay, takes about 2-3 hours to fit yourself , I'd give it a 5/10 or 3 spanner difficulty rating smile

This thread is pretty much spot on.

So quick update.
Only just had time to pop the Alternator off and back to the supplier.
Turns out one of the 6 diodes had failed which was a big phew for me.. (Had visions of an auto electrician showing me a mucho chewed wiring loom a thousand pounds down the road)
