What are SO2A's

On my 944S2 I changed to Bridgestone having followed previous discussions. I asked for SO2's as recommended.
The tyres fitted are S02'A's with N4 noted. Am I right that the tread pattern is totally different from original SO2's and if so what are they? and are they as good as originals?

The only S02s I've used (TVR V8S) have been Pole Position, and they've stopped making these. But I remember hearing that they were still making the 'type N' S02s used for Porsches. So I don't know what the significance of the 'A' thing is, but the 'N' designation seems reassuring.
