Guys,

Is there anyone with authority who can help me??? Please no guessing games or maybes.

Will the 951 (944 turbo) clutch and fly fit in the 944 Bell, and would any bearings release mech or slave elements need changing????????

I need an uprated clutch and the 951 would suit, though various 'elements' are trying to get me to cough for the Bell asembly as well, and I'm not conviced it's neeeded.

Cheers

Mark

No, the 951 clutch will definitely not fit in the 944 belhousing, been there, got the T-shirt.

The overall diameter of the clutch/ring package is slightly increased, so although you could always get the bellhousing machined larger the starter motor woud end up too close to the ring to work.

So, for the turbo clutch you need to use the correct turbo bellhousing or make yourself a whole lot of work.

Cheers ninemeister,

..... however if I was to tell you that I wont need the ring gear and that I'm having to fabricate the fly and an adapter plate for a different engine with a different starter and ring gear, would the clutch pressure plate fit on it's own??? Sorry but I probably wasn't descriptive enough in the beginning.

From you wealth of knowledge do you also know if the release mechanism and bearings are different, or could I just get the 951 bell and clutch and use all the other 944 bits???

Anything else you can think of? Torque tube compatibility? etc etc?

Cheers

951 and 944 torque tubes can be swapped. The casings are identical, like the gearboxes' (at least on post 85.5 cars).

The clutch cover will fit in the 944 bellhousing.
The torque tubes are identical.
The release bearings, operating fork and slave cylinder are identical.

Advice now is to try it with what you have, if you cannot get it working use all the parts off one donor car.

Brilliant Mate! Many thanks.

Think I will go with the original Bell then and have a bespoke fly made up to take the turbo clutch cover, and the donor ring on the engine side as the starter is mounted on the block.

I'm glad Porsche were sensible and din't change things for changes sake!
